John Deere Announces Updates To 2019 5R Series Utility Tractors
John Deere is updating its 2019 model year 5R Series Utility Tractors with features designed to enhance tractor maneuverability, in-cab visibility, and operator comfort, all while minimizing costs. Models impacted include the 5090R, 5100R, 5115R, and 5125R. John Doyle, a Deere product marketing manager, notes that the 5R models include features normally found in larger row-crop tractors, adding that “livestock and hay producers will notice how nimble these machines are, especially when working in small fields or other confined spaces where maneuverability is important.”
Working Efficiently
The updates to the 5R models include numerous options, including an ability to have Deere’s AutoTrac, JDLink, 4240 Display, and StarFire 6000 Receiver integrated. Other options include a suspended front axle that adapts to changing terrains, variable-ratio steering, a reconfigurable joystick loader control, new front hitch, and PTO. The 2019 5R models can also connect to ISOBUS-compatible implements, Deere says.
In terms of steering, operators can look forward to easier maneuverability thanks to what Deere says is an industry-exclusive 7.4-foot (2.3-meter) wheelbase, 60-degree steering angle, and 12.1-foot (3.7-meter) turning radius. Deere says turns will be 8 percent tighter compared to those from the next closest competitor and 4 inches (10.2 centimeters) shorter than Deere’s 5M utility tractor model. “This provides an extra 17 degrees of steering angle," Doyle says. Additionally, variable-ratio steering will decrease steering-wheel turns by 50 percent when reaching the tractor's maximum steering angle, a feature that will help reduce operator fatigue while enhancing productivity and maneuverability, Doyle says.
Improved Upward Visibility
When selecting the Panorama cab option, Deere says operators will enjoy 80 percent better upward visibility during loader tasks compared to its current 5M premium cab models. The reconfigurable joystick the 5Rs will offer, meanwhile, will let operators switch the loader joystick functionality from controlling the mid selective control valves to the rear SCVs, Deere says. Elsewhere, buyers can pair JDLink with RDA (Remote Display Access) technology to gain remote tractor access and tap into features typically included with larger tractors, such as the optional CommandARM with electro-hydraulic SCVs that Doyle says “puts more hydraulic functions at the fingertips of the operator.”
