Case IH Unveils 2020 AFS Connect Magnum Series Tractors
Case IH’s new AFS (Advanced Farming Systems) Connect Magnum Series Tractors for the 2020 model year come with new remote data-sharing connectivity, a completely redesigned cab, and other improvements.
“This is a tractor that has evolved,” says Case IH’s high-horsepower marketing manager, Jay Barth. “The Magnum you depend on and trust today is still there, but it has added capabilities that make your day easier.”
AFS Connect
“AFS Connect is an advanced data system that allows easy operation management and helps producers make informed decisions,” from any desktop, tablet, or mobile device, says Case IH’s Advanced Farming Systems marketing manager, Kirk Wesley.
Using AFS Connect, from wherever you happen to be, you can see what’s on the display inside the cab of your AFS Connect Magnum Series Tractor in the field. That lets you give the operator advice (“Slow down on this stretch,” for example), or help identify problems with the tractor or implement it’s pulling.
You can then share the data with your agronomist for guidance about the field conditions, or ask your dealer to remotely check a diagnostic error code in case the tractor needs maintenance. You can also set customized text alerts to tell you when fluid temperatures or pressures are too high, or the machine is running too fast.
“Whether receiving a planting prescription from an agronomist or reviewing an operational question in real time with remote display viewing, these time-saving opportunities are critical to maintaining uptime in our tight operational windows,” says Case IH’s Advanced Farming Systems marketing manager, Chris Dempsey. “You can be 3 miles or 300 miles away, and instantly connect remotely to get the information needed to resolve an issue.
“Remote monitoring and support not only provide countless opportunities to maximize in-field productivity, but also give peace of mind that everything is running smoothly when life pulls you out of the field,” says Dempsey.
Technologies
The key components of AFS Connect in the Magnum Series tractors are the new AFS Pro 1200 display with Bluetooth support, the configurable AFS Vision Pro operating system, and the AFS Vector Pro receiver with easier guidance correction setup (cellular, satellite, or radio) at various levels of accuracy.
Besides the remote service support from the dealer, the system also allows for FOTA (firmware over the air) wireless updates. Furthermore, AFS Connect can share guidance lines, boundaries, prescriptions, and other data with all of your connected machines so you only have to set them up once. The system is compatible with model year 2010 and newer equipment.
Physical Improvements
“We used a clean-sheet approach to completely redesign (the Magnum Series’) cab,” Barth says. “We took advantage of the opportunity to start from scratch. We listened to producers and took a hard look at what we could do differently.”
User controls now include a MultiControl armrest with eight buttons, a MultiFunction handle with four programmable hotkey buttons, and an encoder knob. The cab has more storage and visibility, Case IH says, and better A/C and heat.
Two cameras come standard with the luxury cab configuration, and you can view feeds from up to four cams. Additional new features include optional LED grill headlights, 360-degree egress lighting, breakaway-style marker lights, and tire pressure monitoring sensors.
