Case IH Reveals New AFS Connect Magnum 400 Series Tractor With New Cab Design & Connectivity Features
Case IH recently announced that it is adding a 435-horsepower (324-kilowatt) model to its AFS (Advanced Farming Systems) Connect Magnum series of tractors. The AFS Connect Magnum 400 features a newly redesigned cab, automated brake-assisted steering, and an AFS Pro 1200 display with AFS Vision Pro operating system. With these new features, Case IH says the new model “gives producers the freedom to adjust, manage, monitor, and transfer the way they want.” The Magnum 400 will be available for preorder later in 2019 with a planned release for summer 2020. New 2020 models will also come with two-year, 2,000-hour factory warranties.
“We’re unlocking a level of connectivity and remote monitoring never before seen in a Magnum tractor,” says Jay Barth, Case IH’s high-horsepower marketing manager. “We’re excited to introduce the newest member of the Magnum family. The goal of infusing AFS Connect with a 400 horsepower Magnum is to help improve producers’ workflow, productivity, and efficiency for those demanding jobs that require additional power.”
New Cab Design & Improved Performance
The interior of the AFS Connect Magnum 400 features several driver comfort and control features, including a MultiControl Armrest with eight buttons and a MultiFunction Handle with four programmable hot keys, cup holders, charging and data ports, a telescoping steering wheel, and extra storage compartments. A full-glass door offers better visibility. Exterior features include adjustable telescoping mirrors, tire pressure monitoring sensors, breakaway marker lights, and the option for up to four cameras, LED lighting for nighttime operations, and a semi-active cab suspension.
Case IH emphasized performance, as well, adding a new transmission with 21 forward and five reverse gears that supports up to 435 peak horsepower, making the AFS Connect Magnum 400 “the only 400-horsepower Rowtrac tractor on the market,” according to Case IH. It also combines an economy road speed of 30 miles per hour with low first-gear speeds. This allows operators to get from one field another quickly and gives them more accurate speed control while working the land.
Advanced Technologies
The AFS Pro 1200 display inside the cab offers navigation, Bluetooth support to connect a mobile device, and makes it easier to connect operators with farm managers. AFS Vision Pro complements the display by letting operators set preferences and hot keys, and the AFS Vector Pro receiver “streamlines guidance correction options, ranging from base (WAAS and AFS 1) to medium (AFS 2) to high (RTK and RTK+) accuracy levels,” according to Case IH.
Outside the cab, farm managers have access to the tractor via the AFS Connect portal, which is available on desktops and mobile devices. Case IH says the portal provides access to “current field operations, fleet information, agronomic data, and more,” allowing farmers to remotely keep “an eye on their operation.” Users can then upload that data to the cloud and share it. Dealers can offer remote customer support by diagnosing issues and determining what part is needed, and the system allows for remote software updates, two features designed to minimize downtime and keep the tractor in the field.
