Case IH Says AFS Soil Command Eliminates The Need To 'Farm On The Average'
Case IH’s AFS (Advanced Farming Systems) Soil Command uses sensor technology to optimize Cash IH tillage tools with a data-driven approach that adjusts tillage settings as field conditions change. By monitoring every square inch of soil, producers can create an ideal seedbed and set the stage for agronomic benefits into the next season. With the Soil Command technology hitting the fields this fall, Case IH has provided some feedback from producers who’ve already taken advantage of the Soil Command feature.
Beneficial For All Skill Levels
The one-touch, in-cab adjustment process to enhance tillage tool performance is helpful for operators of all skill levels, particular those with less experience. “Having that capability where it's set and you can put some less skilled operators in the cab is a real advantage,” says Scott Johnson, who farms corn and soybeans in Wells, Minnesota. “In the future, it will help us be more hands-on or hands-off in the areas that we need to be.”
Coordinate Changes
Case IH indicates that when an operator changes the depth, all other functions of the machine automatically adjust with the main shank and disk depth adjustments. “A lot of times, our soil conditions vary across the field, so it’s ideal to be able to make adjustments on the go, from the cab,” says Al Klinkner, who farms in Lake Crystal, Minnesota. “The presets are easy to use, because when you make one adjustment, it’s important to change all the settings to make your equipment do the job you want it to do.”
Real Agronomic Advantages
Poor seedbed conditions can hinder crop stand and yield potential through improper germination, limited root stand, and less-than-ideal moisture levels. “In a challenging year like this with wet spring and fall compaction on the horizon, producers are taking a closer look and realizing there’s room for improvement,” says Chris Lursen, Case IH tillage marketing manager. “Producers are able to make the small changes and adjustments that yield results year after year.”
