Hesston by Massey Ferguson—an AGCO-owned brand of self-propelled windrowers, draper headers, square and round balers, and other hay and forage equipment—has announced a new MF1316S RazorEdge pull-type disc mower conditioner for North American growers. Introduced at the Farm Progress Show 2019 running this week in Decatur, Illinois, the 16-foot (4.9-meter) MF1316S is designed to cut and condition more acres daily, features new belt-driven augers designed for easy belt servicing, and comes with a RazorEdge cutterbar featuring 18-degree “high lift” bottom-bevel Radura knives.

    “Trouble-Free” Performance

AGCO, also the owner of the Massey Ferguson, Challenger, Fendt, GSI, and Valtra brands, says the MF1316S replaces the MF1395 “as the largest of the heavy-duty welded-frame” 1300 Series of RazorEdge pull-type mower conditioners. Matt LeCroy, AGCO hay and forage product marketing manager, says that everything concerning the MF1316S is designed to provide “reliable, trouble-free hay-cutting performance.” “Our goal is to help producers create a wide, flat windrow for fast dry-down,” LeCroy says. “The result is higher-quality hay and forage for your livestock and your customers.”

Among the new mower conditioner’s more notable features are the easy-to-service belt-drive augers at the ends of its header to move crop quickly to the conditioners. Fully enclosed crop conveyors, or cages, meanwhile, are situated outside the augers. Combined, the various design approaches minimize the odds of double-cuts, crop wrapping, and crop buildup. “The result is uniform windrows that dry faster and more evenly, enhancing the baler operator’s ability to form a heavy, dense, evenly shaped bale while preserving the quality of hay or forage,” AGCO says.

    Quick, Easy Maintenance

In addition to the new side panel that enables quick, easy servicing of the drive belts for the auger headers, the MF1316S’ new drive-belt system incorporates a self-adjusting spring tensioner that makes setting and maintaining optimum belt tension easier. The MF1316S also offers an optional quick-change knife system that features the “only one-handed quick-change tool in the industry,” AGCO says.
