Tech, Tracks & Intelligence: John Deere 8RX Recognized For Innovation
John Deere has announced that its new 8RX tractor series was honored with a 2020 CES Innovation Award in the Tech For A Better World category for helping farmers solve modern challenges. The CES panel notes that the 8RX solves three big issues for farmers, citing the 8RX Series’ ground protection, advanced automation, and productivity features—all of which enable farmers to produce more crops with less work.
More On The 8RX
Available in horsepower ratings from 230 (172 kilowatts) to 410 (306 kilowatts), the new 8RX features a fixed-frame, four-track design that combines the superior pulling performance and soil protection of tracks with the turning characteristics of a conventional wheeled tractor. The four independent tracks are combined with a fully suspended cab to deliver optimal flotation, traction, and ride quality. The 8RX’s advanced engineering is built around John Deere’s 1700 pivoting beam axle, which is said to provide the necessary strength and adjustability for track tread spacings. At launch, tread-spacing options include 76-, 80-, 88-, or 120-inch (193-, 203-, 224-, or 305-centimeter) front axles, as well as a selection of front and rear belt widths.
8 Series Tech
The 8RX—and its 2020 8R and 8RT brethren—come with a full suite of John Deere technology. "This award recognizes our focus on innovation in precision agriculture that enables farmers to increase productivity as they meet the challenge of feeding the rapidly-growing global population,” says Dr. Bernhard Haas, senior vice president of Deere's Global Tractor Platform. Just a few of the ground-breaking technologies on the 2020 8R series includes the Gen 4 4600 CommandCenter display, the StarFire 6000 integrated GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receiver, and AutoTrac activation that facilitates both automation and connectivity through the John Deere Operations Center.
