John Deere’s New X Series Combines Increase Productivity, Automatically Respond To Changing Conditions
John Deere has introduced its new, high-capacity X9 1000 and X9 1100 combines for large-scale farms in North America. The new X Series harvesters, available with wheels or tracks, feature technology that can automatically adjust to changes in field conditions without risking crop loss or damage, Deere says.
The manufacturer says that an X9 1100 combine can harvest up to 30 acres of wheat per hour using an HDR Rigid Cutterbar draper head and up to 7,200 bushels of corn per hour with a C16F folding corn head.
Automated Compensation
“As conditions change, an X9 Combine can make automatic adjustments for the operator so it consistently operates at peak levels,” says John Deere Harvesting Product Manager Matt Badding. “For example, in the morning, straw can be damp and make threshing and separating tough. By midday, the moisture evaporates and harvesting conditions improve. In the past, these changes required operators to adjust combine settings to help the machine compensate.”
Vital Statistics
The X9 1000 has a 420-bushel grain tank, while the X9 1100 can carry up to 460 bushels of grain. Both combines have dual separators, a wide feeder house, and Deere’s 75-square-foot (7-square-meter) Dyna-Flo XL Cleaning Shoe, which Deere claims is the largest available from any brand.
The X Series runs on a new PowerTech 13.6L engine, a belt drive, and an upgraded ProDrive XL transmission. Badding says that an X9 1100 uses 20% less fuel per bushel harvested than John Deere’s S790 combine model. Run time for an X Series combine is up to 14 hours on a tank of fuel.
A Connected Cab
Deere restyled the cab of the new X Series, providing more connectivity, charging ports, and storage space. Among its comfort and convenience packages are options such as a swiveling, heated, ventilated, and massaging seat. An available touchscreen satellite radio supports voice commands and smartphone integration.
Technology package options include Deere’s many branded features, including AutoTrac RowSense, Generation 4 Machine Sync, and Combine Advisor. The new combines come standard with an integrated StarFire 6000 Receiver, which is more accurate and starts up more rapidly than previous models. The receiver also no longer requires Terrain Compensation Module (TCM) calibration. Five years of JDLink wireless connectivity also comes standard, allowing communication between machines and the sharing of agronomic and performance data.
Finally, Deere offers various service plans including options to lock in operating costs. Moreover, John Deere Connected Support includes the company’s industry-exclusive Expert Alerts.
