Case IH Precision Disk 550-Series Air Drills Improve Seed Placement & Provide Growers With Seed-Hauling Options

Case IH says its new Precision Disk 550 air drills boost planting efficiency and performance through enhancements like a new closing system with indexable angle adjustments, from 0 to 13 degrees, to match the field conditions. Other new additions include the ability to adjust the down pressure and select from a number of gauge wheel widths to handle tougher, no-till conditions, or to adjust the air drill for seeding in conventional tillage conditions.

“With this new row unit, every single detail is designed to optimize seed placement and deliver unmatched stand establishment,” says Trent Nowosad, Case IH marketing manager for seeding equipment. “Even when Mother Nature isn’t on your side, Precision Disk 550 air drills provide peace of mind that plants will get their best start possible.”

Cart Or Tank?

The Precision Disk 550 is designed to work with tow-behind or tow-between air carts and is available in working widths of 30, 40, 50, and 60 feet (9.1, 12.2, 15.2, and 18.3 meters). The 550T, which comes in 30- and 40-ft variants, comes equipped with a mounted seed tank with a 110-bushel (3,876-liter) or 140-bu (4,933-L) capacity, respectively. The 550T has high-floatation tires to reduce compaction and accommodate the increased weight of the onboard seed tank. Spacing options throughout the 550 Series are 10 inches (25.4 centimeters) or 7.5 in. (19 cm) with front and rear ranks lockable to 15- or 20-in. (38.1 or 50.8 cm) spacing. The 550T also offers a single-rank 15-in. spacing option.

Accurate Seed Placement

The Precision Disk 550T air drill features an in-tank camera to check the tank level during filling, and a weight scale and flow monitor to track seed distribution on the tractor’s in-cab display. Calibration software helps verify output settings and ensures accurate seed delivery. The drill’s row units feature a new seed trench scraper that more cleanly cuts the seed trench, and a forward-facing seed tube that Case IH says provides a low-momentum seed drop to reduce hop that might place seeds outside the trench.
