Massey Ferguson’s Beauvais, France, Facility Rolls Out 1 Millionth Tractor
Massey Ferguson has been assembling tractors at its Beauvais manufacturing plant in France since November 1960. This week, the AGCO-owned company turned out the 1 millionth tractor at the plant, a feat that coincides with Massey Ferguson’s 175th anniversary this year. At a milestone event, the MF 8S.305 Dyna-VT tractor was presented to Thierry Aubrée, an arable farmer and contractor from the village of La Chapelle-des-Fougeretz in Brittany, France. Other tractors produced in Beauvais include the MF 4700 M, MF 5700 M, MF 5S, MF 6S, MF 7S, and MF 8700 S Series. Named Factory of the Year 2016, the factory can produce as many as 100 tractors in a day, which are then shipped to dealers in more than 70 countries.
Born To Farm
“These dual milestones prove our status as agricultural problem solvers dedicated to providing the right equipment, at the right price, for individual farming operations,” says Massey Ferguson North America Vice President Darren Parker. “Our equipment, just like our customers, is Born to Farm.”
How It Began
Tractor production in Beauvais began with the MF 825. Other noteworthy tractors produced there have included the MF 3000 Series, the first tractor with onboard electronics, in 1986. In 2008, the factory began production of the MF 8600, the first ag machine to use selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to reduce its environmental impact. In 2020, the factory assembled the first MF 8S Series tractors, with their award-winning and cooling- and performance-enhancing Protect-U concept. Protect-U puts a 9.4-inch (24-centimeter) space in between the cab and engine installation that buffers operators from heat, noise, and vibration. The MF 8S Series is the winner of Tractor of the Year 2021, Red Dot: Product Design 2021, and Farm Machine 2022 awards.
Recent plant developments have included the implementation of lean manufacturing practices, the expansion of the Beauvais 2 cab assembly line and a logistics center, and the development of a Tractor Customization Workshop.
“As we hand over this 1 millionth tractor, we are set to unify our sites into a single MF Campus with all our departments under one roof,” says Massey Ferguson EAME Vice President and Managing Director Thierry Lhotte. “This offers high flexibility and leverages the unique experiences, skills, and commitment of the people who work here. This tractor milestone is our 2,500 employees’ success, including our GIMA transmissions’ joint venture.”
