Hesston By Massey Ferguson 1 Series Round Baler Rises To The Challenge Of Dry Hay & Stover
Massey Ferguson recently announced the launch of its new Hesston By Massey Ferguson 1 Series round balers, designed to bale dry hay, stover, and residue. The series offers two models, the RB.146, capable of up to 4- by 6-foot (1.2- by 1.8-meter) bales, and the RB.156, which creates round bales up to 5 by 6 ft (1.5 by 1.8 m). The new baler will make its public debut at the Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Illinois on August 29th.
Low-Power, High-Tension Baling
The 1 Series has a standard camless pickup that offers reduced power requirements—80 horsepower (60 kilowatts) for the RB.146 and 100 HP (75 kW) for the RB.156—as well as reduced maintenance and noise while improving efficiency.
Enhancements on the 1 Series include a front-mounted net binding system for quicker, closer binding without impacting operator visibility. The balers’ duckbill-style net system moves the net from the roll to the bale and the net braking design enables one-handed adjustment without tools for the best net tension. The net roll loading rack moves out at tailgate height to reduce lifting and positioning. Owners have the option of adding a hydraulic drop floor that lets operators clear obstructions without leaving the cab.
Ready For A Challenge
Designed for challenging dry hay, stover, and residue, the 1 Series is built for durability with triple-lip sealed bearings that keep out debris, heavy-wall aggressive rollers with welded cleats, debris shields, and cast roller flares. Downtime is further kept to a minimum with maintenance-free elastomeric tension and toothless idlers that reduce wear on diamond roller chains.
Massey’s 1 Series balers have a vertical chamber that increases bale density through gravity rather than additional power and a positively engaging undershot rotor to improve efficiency. The balers also have tractor implement management capabilities, so they can stop the tractor and cycle a bale without input from the operator.
“Baling dry hay and stover is incredibly demanding on hay equipment,” says Massey Ferguson North America Tactical Marketing Manager, Dane Mosel. “Our engineering team in Hesston, Kansas, worked diligently to provide an efficient solution that can stand up to the challenging conditions our farmers face in the field.”
