Honda’s flagship Pioneer 1000 is returning to the Honda utility vehicle lineup for 2024. Farmers, ranchers, landscapers, groundskeepers, hunters, fishermen, and trail riders will have multiple model and trim options to match their needs.

Variants include the 6-seat Pioneer 1000-6 Deluxe Crew, 5-seat Pioneer 1000-5, and 2- to 4-seat Pioneer 1000. All offer several color options, but only the 1000-6 and select 1000 and 1000-5 trims are available in the new Atera Camo design, created by Honda through a partnership with TrueTimber to create.

Features On All Honda Pioneer 1000 Models

All 2024 Pioneer 1000 models have a 999-cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin, 4-stroke engine. Honda attaches the engine and exhaust system using rubber mounts that reduce vibration and noise.

The power plant uses the same Unicam cylinder design as Honda CRF motocross motorcycles. The result is a smaller, lighter engine that allows for a more spacious cabin and improved handling.

Honda equips each model with a fully automatic, 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). It includes a nifty memory function that returns the transmission to the most recent drive mode after traveling in reverse. Riders can manually shift gears via paddle shifters on the steering column.

Honda says its engineers optimized transmission gear ratios for the Pioneer 1000 for pulling power at lower speeds, which contributes to the UTV’s 2,500-pound (1,134-kilogram) towing capacity. (Photo courtesy of Honda.)

These models each offer standard, Trail, Forest, and Deluxe trims, with only Forest available in Atera Camo. The Forest and Trail editions have an “intelligent” i-4WD brake-traction control system that maintains front-wheel traction even if one wheel wants to spin. Benefits include a tighter turning radius and lighter steering.

All trims have an 80.2-inch (2,037-millimeter) wheelbase and a 13.8-foot (4.2-meter) turning radius. By comparison, the Pioneer 1000-6 has a 115.2-in (2,926-mm) wheelbase and an 18.7-ft (5.7-m) wheelbase.

The 1000-5 stands apart with its QuickFlip seat system, which makes it easy to switch among 3-, 4-, and 5-passenger seating configurations. You can also fold down the two rear seats to free up space in the cargo bed.

The entire Pioneer 1000 lineup includes a tilting bed with a 1,000-pound (453.6-kilogram) capacity and an easy-to-use hydraulic assist lever. All models can tow a generous 2,500 lbs (1,134 kg), ideal for hauling fence posts, hunting gear, hay bales, or other supplies.

The Pioneer 1000 and 1000-5 gain a Sport Mode for 2024 that shifts gears at a higher RPM. On the Pioneer 1000-6, drivers can flip a switch on the dash to activate a tow/haul mode. This holds each gear position longer, which is handy when transporting heavy loads.

Honda Pioneer 1000-6 Deluxe Crew Overview

Honda’s largest multipurpose side-by-side is available in Avenger Red, Black Forest Green, and Atera Camo. Introduced last year, the UTV has found a home on ranches, construction sites, and trails, says Honda. One likely reason is best-in-class passenger space, including 28 in. (71 cm) of knee space.

For 2024, there’s more passenger shoulder room thanks to Honda moving the center-rear seat slightly forward. The 2024 Pioneer 1000-6 Deluxe Crew also includes an auto-leveling suspension. Honda says this feature automatically restores the vehicle to a level riding position when carrying a load in the cargo bed to maintain ground clearance, comfort, and handling.
