Kuhn has two new combination disc rippers for crop producers looking to perform residue management, compaction removal, and residue mixing in one pass. The manufacturer says its Kuhn Krause Dominator 4857 and 4861 models provide optimal compaction removal and residue handling while reducing daily lubrication service times.

Each model situates coulters ahead of shanks, enabling residue to move easily to the rear reverse-tandem disc conditioner, which has a new C-arm and independently mounted blades.

    The Kuhn Krause Dominator 4857

The 4857 is available in four configurations that range from seven to 13 shanks and have real-time-kinematic (RTK) working widths from 10.5 to 19.5 feet (3.2 to 6 meters). The smaller models have a rigid frame. Larger models have a folding frame for easier transport and storage.

All have ultra-large 25-inch (63.5-centimeter)-diameter coulters mounted in gangs using protection-enhancing Rock-Flex arms. Kuhn says 9-in. (23-cm) spacing produces improved residue cutting compared to discs.

The machine has two ranks of subsoil shanks mounted on narrow 18-in. (46-cm) spacing, with no shanks closer than 36 in. (91 cm) on the same beam, thus creating maximum subsoil fracture and compaction removal. Depending on their needs, customers can opt for all deep-till parabolic shanks, a combination of deep-till and heavy-duty chisel shanks, or all heavy-duty chisel shanks.

    The Kuhn Krause Dominator 4861

The 4861 is available in five configurations offering rigid, folding, or folding 3-section frame options, a range of seven to 13 shanks, and 14- to 26-ft (4.3- to 8-m) RTK working widths.

The implement’s double-rank design places auto-reset subsoil shanks on 24-in. (61-cm) spacing, providing a minimum of 48 in. (122 cm) between adjoining shanks. The machine also has adjustable, hydraulic constant-flow coulters and a new heavy-duty scraper bar weldment that keeps residue and wet soil from building up between the coulter blades.

    A Choice Of Reels

The newest Dominators have a reverse-tandem disc conditioner with blades mounted on a new, 6-bolt disc hub. Kuhn says the hub and new C-arm combination provides 10% more soil and residue flow through the disc conditioner for better continuous operation in difficult soil conditions.

Customers can choose between a new heavy-duty solid round bar or a heavy-duty flat bar reel. The latter is well-suited to rocky conditions and uses Peer TillXtreme maintenance-free bearing assemblies mounted on heavy-duty ductile cast bearing arms, enabling aggressive clod sizing and soil firming. Double K 7-in. (18-cm) wing or 2.5-in. (6.4-cm) straight ripper points are available.
