Aerial Work Platform Provider SkyJack Partners With Trackunit On Telematics Solution
Skyjack—a division of Linamar Company that manufactures aerial work platforms, including vertical mast lifts; articulating and telescopic booms; telehandlers; and DC electric and rough terrain scissor lifts—recently partnered with third-party global telematics provider Trackunit. The partnership will enable Skyjack to address increased demand it states it’s seeing from customers for integrated connectivity in machines, as well as support customers’ goals for connected fleets. A host of Skyjack scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other Skyjack equipment is available on RentalYard.com.
Telematics Key To Greater ROI
Brad Boehler, Skyjack president, stated Skyjack has reached a point with telematics “where our customers see the value, and partnering with Trackunit puts us in a position to continue to deliver great ROI with this product.” Skyjack is aiming to make access to machine data easy, including to support rental companies and customers’ expectations concerning connecting fleets. Trackunit’s offerings include Go, On, and Manager services; its Iris platform; and the Raw telematics device that provides secure connectivity for fleets.
Vehicle Knowledge Counts
David Swan, Skyjack product manager, stated Trackunit understands the OHV (off-highway vehicle) rental industry, one that presents unique challenges telematics-wise. OHV, he states, is part of Trackunit’s core business and delivering value OHV and construction operations is what it does. “We’re looking to provide a solution that delivers actionable insights to improve existing fleet management processes,” Swan stated. “What you’re going to see coming out of this partnership is a solution that reflects Skyjack’s ‘easy-to-do-business-with’ approach.”
Benefits Of The Partnership
Partnering with Trackunit also helps Skyjack avoid problems associated with using proprietary hardware and software, something Skyjack states has encumbered previous OEM-provided solutions and made it difficult for rental companies with fleets consisting of multiple makes and models to adopt an OEM solution. Trackunit, however, already supports telematics connectivity for globally located mixed-brand fleets, enabling a Skyjack-Trackunit solution to enter that ecosystem, Skyjack states.
What To Watch For
Skyjack is targeting a Q1 2018 launch date for its Skyjack-Trackunit service, which will include a data-only package supporting rental company ERP systems and a standalone end-to-end solution. Such services as access control, familiarization, and safety-check training for end users provided as integrated components are also planned.
