JLG Industries, Inc., a division of the Oshkosh Corporation is unveiling its 1644 High Capacity Telehandler (telescopic forklift; a mobile crane with a fork at the end of the boom) at the 2018 World Of Concrete exhibition, happening later this month in Las Vegas, Nevada.

    JLG 1644 Benefits

The JLG 1644 high capacity telehandler is a highly versatile workhorse ideal for maneuvering supplies and equipment around your worksite. In addition to its obvious usefulness in construction, this unit supports a variety of specialized attachments, making it suitable for wind, oil and gas, steel erection, industrial construction, and mining industry applications. Customers looking for a telehandler are sure to appreciate the 1644’s impressive 15,650 pounds (7,099 kilograms) of lift capacity, 43-foot 7-inch (13.3-meter) maximum lift height, and 31-foot 1-inch (9.5-meter) maximum reach.

    JLG 1644 Capabilities

According to JLG, much of the innovation that sets the 1644 apart from the competition centers on the optional SmartLoad Technology bundle, which refers to a trio of technologies designed to dramatically improve the operator’s level of comfort and control. The first part of this bundle, “attachment recognition,” enables the telehandler to interface with the connected attachment and inform the operator of the respective load chart.

The second part is JLG’s Load Management Information System (LMIS). This refers to the telehandler’s ability to display the location of the load on the load chart, display compliance at-a-glance, and prevent the operator from deviating from the machine’s operational limits. The third technology, Load Stability Indicator (LSI), takes into account information generated by the LMIS to keep the operator informed when the payload is nearing the machine’s load limits.

Another marquee feature of the 1644 is the precision gravity lowering system, which gives the operator much smoother, more granular control over the lowering of the boom. The 1644’s soft stop boom control also slows boom functions at the end of the cylinder stroke for a less abrupt and potentially jarring stop. Other features include an integrated tow hitch, a spacious cab with 360-degrees of visibility, a two-speed hydrostatic transmission, and ride control for better load stability over uneven terrain. Optional extras include a reverse camera, reverse sensing system, a boom float, and a variety of attachments, such as pallet forks, a bale clamp, pipe grapple, multi-purpose 4-in-1 bucket, and more.

JLG also plan to exhibit the SkyTrak 8042 telehandler with an 8,000-pound (3,629-kilogram) maximum lift capacity, and the JLG 400S telescopic boom lift, with a 40-foot (12-meter) platform height. To see these impressive machines in person stop by the Las Vegas Convention Center booth #C7264 between January 23 and 26.
