John Deere engineered the new 344L compact wheel loader with new loader arms and a coupler to provide better parallel lifting, resulting in a full-turn tip load of 12,650 pounds (5,738 kilograms). "We designed the new 344L to help operators get more done in the field faster than they have before," says Drew Miller, product marketing manager, compact wheel loaders, John Deere Construction & Forestry. "The 344L is a quick, nimble machine that is optimized for handling tight turns while maintaining heavy loads, helping customers focus on the task at hand and not having to manage the machine."

    Articulation Plus

The 344L’s steering system boasts John Deere’s Articulation Plus technology for a tighter turning radius, as well as improved stability and the aforementioned additional lift capacity. Operators have access to rim pull controls to adjust the compact loader’s torque to job site conditions. The additional rim pull controls help to extend tire life and reduce the driveline wear, according to John Deere.

    New Engine Layout

John Deere redesigned the engine layout to increase airflow, reduce the risk of debris penetration, and provide easier access to ground-level service points. For example, John Deere installs a reversible fan to quickly clean out the machine in situations where there’s a lot of airborne debris. For better serviceability, the 344L features a John Deere FT4 engine. The 344L compact wheel loader delivers a maximum gross output of 106 horsepower and maximum travel speed of 25 mph (40 km/h).

    Onboard Telematics

The 344L wheel loader comes with JDLink telematics for real-time data and remote diagnostics. With the latter, operators can read codes, record performance data, and even update software without a trip to the job site. The 344L’s machine monitoring can also suggest maintenance solutions to decrease downtime.
