Volvo Adds A New Asphalt Compactor To The DD100 Series
Volvo Construction Equipment just announced the availability of the DD110C, a new highway-class double drum asphalt compactor that comes decked-out with the latest technology. The 10-ton-class DDC110C features a 66.9-inch (1.7-meter) drum width, making it the smallest unit in Volvo’s new DD100C family, which currently consists of the 79-inch (2-meter) drum-equipped DD120C and the DD140C, with an 84-inch (2.1-meter) drum. The DD110C has a 24,350-pound (11,045-kilogram) operating weight, 148-horsepower engine power, and an optional 8-amplitude drum capable of a 3,800 vibrations per minute (VPM) peak vibration frequency.
Capabilities & Options
The new family of asphalt compactors all ship with a package of high-tech extras, including your choice of Compact Assist or Compact Assist with Density Direct, which refers to Volvo’s exclusive Intelligent Compaction system capable of making and displaying real-time density calculations on a 10-inch (254-millimeter) touchscreen display in the cab. The system is capable of providing temperature mapping, pass mapping, and detailed information that ultimately lets the operator avoid under- or over-compaction as the mat is still soft.
The DD110C’s automatic, variable-interval water spraying system makes quick work of managing flow rates and preventing undesirable material pick-up. For the safety of the operator and other workers in the vicinity, Volvo outfitted the DD110C with a cab that offers a commanding 360-degree view of the area around the machine. The machine also features an adjustable seat, 180-degree rotating console, and unobstructed sightlines of the drum edges. The compactor’s superior noise and vibration insulation also aids operator comfort and focus. Another technology that comes standard on the DD110C is Volvo’s machine monitoring and utilization reporting service called ActiveCare Direct.
Efficiency & Precision
With the Volvo D4 Tier 4 Final engine at its core, the DD110C is fast and efficient enough to evenly compact at the same pace as a paver moving at 60 feet (18.3 meters) per minute. In the cab, you’ll find the on-board display’s Impact Spacing Meter, giving you precise control over the compactor’s speed and impact spacing for a smooth and consistent pass.
The optional 8-amplitude drum is adjustable, letting the operator easily switch between a lower amplitude mode to ensure thin lift applications don’t become over-compacted, and a higher amplitude mode for thicker lifts that require deeper compaction on each pass. Another way the DD110C can be tweaked to better handle the job at hand is in the rotation of the drum eccentrics, which can rotate the same direction that the machine is moving to reduce uneven material distribution.
To hammer home Volvo’s confidence in its products, the DD110C comes with a lifetime frame and structure warranty, which covers the frame and articulation joint for the life of the machine under the initial owner.
