John Deere’s 310E Articulated Dump Truck Receives 2017 Good Design Award
The Good Design Awards Program, which is operated by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, recently announced it was handing John Deere a 2017 Good Design Award for design excellence and innovation for its 310E articulated dump truck (ADT). The Good Design Awards are decided on by a jury of 14 critics, journalists, architects, and designers. They are given out to work in a wide range of areas, including product, industrial, and graphic design. The group decided to award the 310E based on its color scheme as well as its general proportions and symmetrical design.
Running Theme
Deere was particularly happy to receive the award for the 310E ADT because it applies the same general design philosophy to all of its construction equipment in order to make sure you can tell exactly where each machine fits in terms of product line. In fact, the truck, which is built for everything from mining to general road construction and material moving, wasn’t the only Deere product to receive a Good Design Award. Other awarded products from John Deere include the Round Baler Family of products, the 4-Track 9RX Series of tractors, and the 3756G Swing Machine.
Productivity, Safety & Serviceability
Deere took a three-tier approach with the 310E articulated dump truck, which included productivity, safety, and serviceability. Deere built this ADT to work on a wide range of jobsites and in a variety of operating conditions. It has front and rear LED work lights as well as a reverse camera that comes standard so you can always see your surroundings. Deere also constructed the 310E ADT with durability in mind to make sure it doesn’t require constant maintenance and is easy to repair when needed. For example, it includes a tire pressure monitor that sends an alert when the pressure drops by 10%, and it has a unique diesel particulate filter (DPF) where the truck sends a notification if the system will require service soon.
