Caterpillar Rolls Out A New Tandem Vibratory Roller
Cat is fleshing out its paving machine family with several new production-class Tandem Vibratory Rollers. The CB13, CB15, and CB16 are 13-, 15-, and 16-ton weight class tandem vibratory rollers, respectively. These new models feature a number of operator controls, water spray system, service access, and lighting package improvements, compared to previous models.
Productivity Prioritized
Caterpillar designed the operator’s cab to improve operator comfort and visibility of both the machine and worksite. The 360-degree seat positioning option lets the operator rotate to face the direction the vehicle is moving. The front steering console now has handwheel steering, which lets the operator keep an eye on the water spray functions. Another ergonomic breakthrough is the rollers’ simplified and easy-to-use 8-button control panel.
The new Tandem Vibratory Rollers all feature a unique center-articulating hitch and 6 degrees of oscillation for delivering superior mat finish and a smoother ride, regardless of the terrain. Operators can also employ the machines’ offset hitch option, which extends coverage up to 6 inches (15 centimeters) to accommodate for curbs and gutters. The new rollers feature a Cat C4.4 engine rated at 142-horsepower, with Eco-mode and automatic speed control available on every model.
Options That Make All The Difference
The firm’s exclusive Cat Compaction Control technology is an option that leverages Pass-Count and Temperature Mapping systems, as well as infrared temperature sensors with GPS mapping to report current mat temperatures, machine position, pass-count, and pass coverage; this ensures these machines can keep delivering consistent results long after the sun has set. Another feature that improves nighttime operation of the new rollers is the optional drum edge and drum surface lighting.
Optional subsystems include oscillatory vibration system for excellent application versatility, and for contractors running multiple rollers, the machine-to-machine communication capabilities ensures every operator knows the status of even the portions of the road finished by another operator.
