Caterpillar Unveils Fresh Utility Compactors
Caterpillar, one of the world’s top construction and mining equipment manufacturers, just released a pair of new utility compactors, the CB1.7 and CB1.8, which reside in the 1.87-ton (1.7-metric ton) and 1.98-ton (1.8-metric ton) operating weight classes, respectively. Cat designed the new compactors for scaled-down projects, such as bike paths, courtyards, patchwork, parking lots, driveways, town centers, shoulder work, and more.
An Ideal Fit
Cat built the CB1.7 and CB 1.8 to be easy to operate. Features that drive this home include toggle-type switches for enabling and disabling the machine’s functions, a mechanical propel lever that delivers excellent control, and vibrant LED lights on the console that make it easy to use the compactors in bright daylight or at night. The spacious platform is designed to be comfortable for any operator, and the simple control panel is accessible enough even for users with limited experience.
These compact compactors are also incredibly portable, with single point lifting option, a sturdy built-in hitch, and a foldable rollover protection structure (ROPS) lets the machine fit into smaller spaces and traverse areas with low overhead clearance. Cat has also outfitted the new compactors with a high-amplitude vibratory system with automatic activation and front or both drum vibratory capabilities, two large diameter drums, and an exclusive eccentric weight design that ensures the surface you’re working ends up smooth and even, every time.
Be Kind, Please Rewind
Those looking to add the new CB1.7 and CB1.8 to a rental fleet will be pleased to learn that both machines support Cat’s Product Link capability, which lets the owner quickly look up the machine’s location and its current service status. What’s more, Caterpillar built these compactors to be rock-solid, fuel-efficient, and cost less than competing machines when it comes to service and maintenance over the life of the unit.
