Volvo Shows Off Redesigned L90H Wheel Loader
At this year’s World of Asphalt 2018 show in Houston, Texas, Volvo Construction Equipment added an updated L90H Wheel Loader to its family of refreshed H-Series rugged, high-performance wheel loaders.
Not Entirely New, But Improved
The overhauled L90H resides in the mid-sized front-end loader class of construction vehicles. Volvo designed it to be the ideal machine for virtually any site application you can think of, thanks especially to the numerous attachment types (buckets, forks, material handling arms, grapples, and more) that are compatible with the machine. Hallmarks of the H-Series 2.0 machines compared to the previous models include faster cycle times, up to 20% better fuel efficiency, and improved productivity.
The Big Difference
According to Volvo, the redesigned L90H wheel loader comes equipped with delayed engine shutdown that prevents undue engine wear by avoiding hot turbo shutdowns, electro-servo hydraulic controls with adjustable sensitivity, and a torque converter lockup that lets the operator lower the RPMs and increase speed to run more efficiently. The L90H also has a new loader arm that supports increased payloads, as well as a sliding cooler that makes it easier to clean dirt and debris from sensitive parts of the machine.
Other features Volvo’s engineers built into its updated wheel loaders include rim pull control for less wheel spin and slippage, a 3.4% increase in tipping load compared to the previous generation, a three-inch (7.62-centimeter) increase in maximum dump height, and external axle coolers extend oil life and help prevent overheating. To top it all off, Volvo added two exclusive, fuel-saving technologies that operators will find helpful: Smart Control, which improves engine and hydraulic harmony, and Smooth Control, which improves operator comfort when carrying a load.
