Caterpillar Releases Updated Motor Grader
Caterpillar, one of the world’s top construction and mining equipment manufacturers, just launched the new Cat 24 Motor Grader, a machine specially designed to handle the construction and maintenance of mine roads.
A Grade “A” Grader
The 24 Motor Grader comes standard with a 24-foot (7.3-meter) wide moldboard, a modular design for quick and easy component removal and installation, and standard Cat GRADE with Cross Slope, which lets the machine carve quality haul road, decreasing truck tire wear, rolling resistance, and premature tire failure.
The 24 also features an optimized weight balance and more low-end torque, by up to 15% compared to the M Series motor graders. Cat has also increased the machine weight by 11% for more blade-down pressure and tractive force, which results in better blading performance.
Big Muscle, Thoughtful Design
At the heart of this beast is the Cat C27 engine with Advanced Combustion Emissions Reduction Technology (ACERT) technology, which is capable of delivering the performance you need – up to 694 horsepower – without belching out harmful particulates. There are two configurations of the Cat 24, a version that adheres to the EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage IV regulations, and another that’s suitable for less-regulated countries, rated at Tier 2 EPA and Stage II EU.
The machine also comes equipped with a 21-inch (53-centimeter), 6-speed planetary transmission. Compared to previous Cat Motor Graders, the Cat 24 offers longer maintenance intervals for the transmission, hydraulic filter, and engine air filter. Cat has also dramatically increased the service life of the transmission and rear axle fluids. Other design improvements you’ll find on the Cat 24 include better protections for the steering components, better front axle durability and reliability, and a transmission guard that helps shield the drop box against damage.
Cat has also thoughtfully considered operator and worksite safety when building this machine. Features that come standard include numerous grab handles, tie-off points, no-slip steps, secure handrails, and support for a fire suppression system.
