Morbark Turns Heads At Expo Richmond

    Posted On: May 23, 2018

Morbark, a leading manufacturer of forestry and wood-processing machines based in Winn, Michigan, recently attended the Expo Richmond trade show and demonstrated its new 6400XT Wood Hog Horizontal Grinder and 50/48X Whole Tree Drum Chipper. These new products add to Morbark’s extensive lineup of equipment, which includes flails, discs and drum tree chippers, brush chippers, horizontal and tub grinders, and stump grinders.

    A Refined Grinder

The 6400XT Wood Hog Horizontal Grinder features a significantly longer—24 inches (61 centimeters), to be exact—infeed bed compared to prior models, as well as sloped sides to improve sight lines for operators. A wear-resistant removable infeed chain return floor is standard equipment for the 6400XT. All told, the machine weighs less than 96,500 pounds (43,772 kilograms) and includes numerous user-oriented features that make the machine easier to maintain and operate. \

Some of these features include a wider platform between the hood and engine, which makes it easier to change grates and access the engine, and a fixed work platform, good for performing common grate and hammermill maintenance. Other features offer quick access to the grates via a locking hydraulic hinged door, oil and hydraulic filters within close proximity to one another, and an independent hammermill drive tensioning system. There is also an enlarged feedwheel, designed to make inspecting the hammermill a simple operation.

    Workhorse Of A Chipper

Morbark’s new 50/48X Whole Tree Drum Chipper is a highly productive portable drum chipper that features a sloped infeed, reverse-pivot top feed wheel, bottom feedwheel, externally adjustable anvil, and an Advantage 3 drum assembly that can be customized to suit multiple applications. This machine also features many of the same enhancements that Morbark added to the 6400XT Wood Hog Grinder, such as the locking hydraulic hinged door for the drum, enlarged work platforms, easier access to both the oil and hydraulic filters, an independent drum drive tensioning system, and other features that simplify general engine inspection and belly band removal.

Expo Richmond, the premier east coast forestry and logging industry exposition, also marks the first time that Morbark has hosted equipment from Rayco Manufacturing. Morbark acquired Rayco in November 2017.
