Genie Unveils New S-80 HF and S-85 HF Telescopic Booms

Genie, a subsidiary of Terex that manufactures material lifts and aerial work platforms, just launched its Genie S-80 HF and S-85 HF (high float) telescopic booms. These new booms are ideally suited to operating on virtually any ground conditions, including soft materials such as sand and turf.

    Raising The Bar On Versatility

The rough terrain equipment that contractors rely on when working in soft ground conditions requires aggressive tread, but these tires also tend to tear up the ground, necessitating additional repair work. The Genie S-80 and S-85 HF booms, on the other hand, were designed to “float” on these sensitive ground conditions, letting contractors spend more time building and less time repairing.

These new booms are based on the popular Genie Xtra Capacity booms, and as such bring higher capacities to a family of machines capable of operating in varied conditions. According to Corrado Gentile, Genie product manager, Terex AWP, “This translates to fewer lift cycles, less equipment needed to get tools and materials to work areas at height, and the ability to work on jobsites where regular rough terrain machines do not perform.”

    More Productive, In More Places

The Genie S-80 and S-85 HF offer an unrestricted dual-lift capacity of 600 pounds (272 kilograms), and a restricted lift capacity of 1,000 pounds (454 kilograms), with up to three people, tools, and other equipment onboard. Other standout features of the new booms include the ability to retract the boom automatically as it reaches the edge of its operating envelope, a load sense cell designed to limit the operating envelope according to the machine’s load chart, and support for zero-load field calibrations. An innovative chassis tilt sensor also lets the operator get more done on jobsites with uneven terrain.

The Genie S-80 HF features an 86-foot (26-meter) working height and a 68.5-foot (21-meter) outreach. The slightly more capable Genie S-85 HF boom has a 91-foot (28-meter) working height and a 72.5-foot 22-meter) outreach. They’re outfitted with a 74-horsepower (55-kilowatt) Tier 4F/Stage IIIB diesel engine, 4WD transmission with positive traction drive, and your choice of a 6-foot 1.8-meter dual-entry or an 8-foot (2.4-meter) tri-entry platform with side-swing gate.
