Caterpillar recently celebrated the production of its 40,000th Cat large dozer, a lineup that consists of the D9, D10, and D11, with an event in East Peoria, Illinois, on October 25. With the help of Finning Canada, a Cat dealer established in 1933, Caterpillar presented a Cat D11T to Teck Resources Limited. Teck already has an extensive fleet of Cat dozers that log as many as 7,000 hours per year working in steelmaking coal mining and production, and its new 225,000-pound (102,058-kilogram) D11T will take on that same responsibility in British Columbia.

“This milestone is important, not just because of the sheer number of Cat machines sold, but also because it represents the many long-lasting and mutually beneficial business relationships established with customers like Teck,” says Greg Hepler, product manager for large dozers at Caterpillar. “We are honored to celebrate this achievement with Teck, and we are grateful that their Elk Valley mines have counted on Caterpillar, Cat equipment and their dealer, Finning Canada, to help them reach their production goals since 1992.”

    Ready For Work

The Cat D11T large dozer sports a Cat C32 ACERT engine that produces up to 850 horsepower and offers enough power to move as much as 1,177 cubic yards (900 cubic meters) of material in an hour. It also has a “rugged mainframe” that is “designed for multiple rebuilds and lowest total cost of ownership,” according to Caterpillar. Other standard and optional features include Enhanced Auto Shift, Automated Blade Assist, Advisor Monitoring System, and VIMS 3G, all of which help improve the safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of the machine.
