Caterpillar Introduces New Cat 330 & 330 GC Next Generation Excavators

Caterpillar recently announced two new Next Generation crawler excavators, the Cat 330 and Cat 330 GC. They feature several improvements over past models, including better fuel efficiency, with the 330 consuming 20% less fuel per unit of work than the previous 330F and 15% less than the 330DT. At the same time, the new Cat 330 takes advantage of a 14,770-pound (6,700-kilogram) counterweight to offer a maximum lifting capacity that is 15% higher than the 330DT and around 10% higher than the 330F. Caterpillar also worked to reduce excavator maintenance costs by adding a hydraulic return filter with a service life of 3,000 hours and fuel system filters with synchronized service intervals of 1,000 hours.

Technologically Advanced

The new Cat 330 series uses Cat Connect technology to improve efficiency through assisted grading, load balancing, and more. One subset of Cat Connect, for example, is Cat Grade, which enables the Standard Grade Assist solution to take over movements of the boom, stick, and bucket so that the operator remains on-grade while digging, using only one lever. Cat Payload offers estimates so you don’t overfill or underfill the bucket, while the E-fence feature gives the machine a boundary so it doesn’t go outside of its defined operating area. And Cat Link helps fleet managers stay up-to-date on the status of machines across the entire jobsite.

Interior Options

Caterpillar gives customers the choice between Comfort, Deluxe, or Premium (only available in some regions) cab packages. Standard features include a touchscreen monitor with jog dial keys, keyless start, a joystick with programmable buttons, and 360 degrees of visibility in the standard 330 model thanks to larger windows all around the cab.

Model Specifications

The Cat 330 sports a 275-horsepower Cat C7.1 engine and has an operating weight of 68,125 pounds (30,900 kilograms), maximum digging depth of 23.8 feet (7.2 meters), maximum ground level reach of 35 feet (10.7 meters), and max loading height of 22.8 feet (7 meters). The Cat 330 GC features a 204-horsepower Cat C7.1 engine and has an operating weight of 67,460 lb. (30,600 kilograms), maximum digging depth of 23.8 feet (7.3 meters), maximum ground level reach of 35.1 feet (10.7 meters), and maximum loading height of 22.8 feet (7 meters).
