Complete with Final Tier 4 engines, hydrostatic transmissions, and technology aimed at boosting productivity while reducing fuel costs, John Deere recently announced all-new versions of its 655K and 755K crawler loaders. Part of Deere’s K Series and designed and built in Dubuque, Iowa, the 655K and 755K models’ engines get increases in net power, with the 655K moving from a previous 145 horsepower to 155 horsepower, and the 755K from 190 to 194 horsepower.

    Optimized Fuel Economy

In addition to their John Deere Final Tier 4 6.8-liter engines, the 655K and 755K include a hydrostatic transmission supporting infinite speed control, power management, live power turns, counter rotation while in gear, and dynamic braking. Elsewhere, operators can use a Total Machine Control feature to customize machine response to individual operator needs. In the cab, meanwhile, integrated hydrostatic and hydraulic sensors enable quickly reading those systems’ pressures.

Both models also offer an Eco Mode that Deere claims generates up to 20% less fuel usage without productivity hits. Deere explains the mode optimizes fuel economy while maintaining ground speed via automatic adjustments of engine speed and transmission settings based on the load. When tackling a heavy load, “engine speed increases rapidly to ensure power is available to push through the load,” says Deere, which notes that Eco Mode works in both forward and reverse. An auto-idle feature, meanwhile, automatically lowers engine speed when the crawler is still and functions aren’t activated.

Part of the K Series, the all-new 655K and 755K crawler loaders from John Deere each feature a new Final Tier 4 John Deere motor. The 655K gets a boost from 145 to 155 horsepower, while the 755K’s engine moves from 190 to 194 horsepower. (Photo courtesy of Deere & Company.)

    Enhanced Visibility

The crawler loaders also include a new reverse camera, now standard. Using a large color display, the camera provides view of the machine’s rear and ripper. Other features include optimized hose and harness routings, Deere’s Quad-Cool cooling system, keyless starting, and coded-security modes. Fleet managers, meanwhile, can work with their Deere dealer to implement Ultimate Uptime, which features Deere’s WorkSight suite of optimization technologies and enables receiving pre-delivery and follow-up inspections complete with JDLink telematics and other support services.
