Frequently available for rent or lease on RentalYard.com, the GR750XL rough-terrain crane from Tadano of Takamatsu, Japan, is a blue-and-white bruiser, a dual-axle model that can lift up to 75 tons (68 metric tons) at 8 feet (2.44 meters).
A GR750XL has a max lift height of about 198.5 feet (60.5 meters). It gets its power from a 270-horsepower (201-kilowatt) Cummins QSB6.7 inline 6 cylinder turbo diesel engine with direct injection, after cooling, an exhaust brake, and Tier 4 emissions compliance.
Boom & Jib
The GR750XL’s boom is a five-section, full-power, partially synchronized system made of high tensile steel. Fully retracted, it’s 36.1 feet (11 meters) long. It can extend its U-shaped sections in two telescoping modes (sequential and non-sequential) to a maximum of 141 feet (43 meters), and can rise to 80.3 degrees from ground level.
On the end of the boom is a two-stage, bi-fold, lattice jib with effective lengths of 33.2 feet (10.1 meters) or 58.1 feet (17.7 meters). The tilt-type jib features pinned offsets to angle it at 45, 25, or 3.5 degrees from the boom. The crane’s maximum load radius is 165 feet (50.3 meters) with the jib and 132.5 feet (40.4 meters) without.
A new GR750XL’s main and auxiliary winches come with 771 feet (235 meters) and 436 feet (133 meters) of 3/4-inch (1.9-centimeter) cable, respectively. The 12,300-pound (5,580-kilogram) units are of the variable speed type, driven by hydraulic axial piston motors. The winches have grooved drums, cable followers, and folding mirrors for operator visibility.
For stability, even in confined areas, the GR750XL comes with asymmetrical outriggers with four extension positions. The stabilizers can independently extend out to nearly 24 feet (7.3 m) or slide in to a minimum width of just under 9 feet (2.7 m).
Tech Features
The GR750XL’s Tadano AML-C electronic load moment indicator keeps a watchful eye out to avoid accidents. It senses how far out each outrigger is extended and can keep you from swinging a heavy load too far to a side of the crane that’s undersupported. Tadano’s slow stop function gently prevents risky motions to avoid shock loads and overturns.
Meanwhile, HELLO-NET telematics monitor your machine and log maintenance and location data over the Internet. A fuel monitoring system and two fuel efficiency systems reduce operating costs and carbon emissions during both operation and idling.

Tadano gives you a full set of options with the GR-750XL’s hydraulic power steering. You can steer it with 2 wheels, front or back, or 4 wheels, coordinated or crab-style. This gives you the maneuverability to get into tight spots on the worksite.
The crane’s electronically controlled, fully automatic transmission uses a torque converter and supports 2- or 4-wheel drive. Altogether the unit has six forward and two reverse speeds, along with a maximum traveling speed of 22.4 mph (36 km/h). The GR-750XL features disc brakes and a non-spin rear differential.
All stowed, the GR-750XL shrinks down to a travel size of roughly 44 feet (13.38 meters) long, 11 feet (3.3 meters) wide, and 12.5 feet (3.8 meters) tall. It has a gross vehicle weight of 97,621 pounds (44,280 kilograms).
