Caterpillar has announced a product update package for its M Series of medium-sized wheel loaders such as the 950M, 962M, 966M, 972M, 980M, and 982M. Among the changes are new High Lift and Forestry Machine configurations for the 982M, new seats and suspensions, and longer service intervals.

    High Lift & Logging

The 982M’s new logger configuration has a pin-on mill yard grapple and support for aftermarket logging grapples and woodchip buckets. It’s upgraded to lift a maximum of 28,000 pounds (12,700 kilograms). The new High Lift edition adds 16 inches (406 millimeters) of dump clearance under the bucket pin to reach 16 feet 10 inches (5.1 meters).

The new seats and suspensions for the M Series offer broader adjustability and comfort settings. Meanwhile, Cat has doubled the service life of its engine oil and filter and its hydraulic oil filter from 500 to 1,000 hours. The longer interval between replacements can reduce your operating costs by 16% to 23%, the company says.

    Flash Updates

Cat has also added remote flash support to the M Series, so you or the dealer can install software updates via a mobile device. Speaking of software, the new Cat Advanced Productivity app is a web-based payload management tool for the loaders.

Advansys GET (ground-engaging-tool) system is Cat’s new tip system to extend service life and reduce drag. Meanwhile, a new universal coupler for models 966M through 972M increases breakout force slightly and is width-compatible with more tools. Finally, for EU models, there are new Stage V emission controls available.
