John Deere Updates 2019 G-Series Swing Machines In Forestry Equipment Lineup

Cab changes, improved serviceability, and productivity and uptime enhancements are all in store for 2019 John Deere G-Series Swing Machines, or track log loaders. Deere says the updates for the G-Series line, launched in 2016 and part of Deere’s lineup of Full-Tree Equipment from its broader lineup of Forestry equipment, are a direct result of customer feedback. In addition to swing machines, Deere Forestry equipment includes skidders, wheeled and tracked feller bunchers, knuckleboom loaders, wheeled and tracked harvesters, and forwarders.

Overview Of The Models

The G-Series models included the 2154G, 2156G, 2654G, 2656G, 3154G, 3156G, 3754G and 3756G. These models produce anywhere from 54,857 pounds-foot (74,376 newton-meters) to 88,507 pounds-foot (120,000 newton-meters) of swing torque and 164 horsepower of peak power at 2,000 rpm.

Jarvis De Groot, John Deere Construction & Forestry product marketing manager, says that since launching the G-Series models, Deere has sought to perfect them “based on customer experience in the field.” The new features, he says, “will streamline serviceability and improve the machine design, while still retaining the power and productivity of the original models.”

Easier To Use, Better Performance

In terms of design features, Deere says a larger travel device will improve tractive performance on the 2654G and 2656G and select 2154G and 2156G models. A new left-hand door, meanwhile, includes a removable screen that makes removing debris easy, while a shovel and axe mounting provision provides secure and easily accessible storage. Deere also added a USB port in the cab and moved the auxiliary and USB ports to behind the seat. The side-entry cab, meanwhile, now includes a larger gas strut for the door and a new handrail. Deere also says satellite radio is no longer required with the Convenience Deluxe package on the side-entry and rear-entry cabs.

Streamlined Serviceability

Serviceability improvements include a pre-cleaner for engine air intake of the models’ Final Tier 4 engines, fuel shut-off valves that eliminate fuel leakage and spillage during fuel filter changes, a new hinged AC condenser that eases the removal of debris, and remote grease lines for the boom cylinder base pins that improve ground-level serviceability. Deere is also making an optional hydraulic oil level alarm available.
