Cat Announces New, Redesigned 777G Large Off-Highway Truck
Caterpillar’s updated 777G is the latest in its long-running 777 series of big mining and earthmoving trucks, now in its 42nd year. The current G Series model replaces the 777F, Cat says, and has a 98.4-ton (89.3-metric-ton) payload rating.
Cat graced the new 777G with numerous improvements in fuel economy, comfort, control, safety, and serviceability. We’ll mention some of the highlights.
Impressive Upgrades
A number of new features reduce the 777G’s fuel consumption, including especially during uphill climbs and while idling, and two operating modes (Standard Economy and Adaptive Economy) automatically leverage efficiencies where feasible. The truck meets EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V emissions standards.
New, more comfortable seats and a new console reside in the 777G’s upgraded cab, which cuts down machine noise by 50% compared to its F Series forebear. The cab provides better visibility and is easier to get into and out of, too. Cat integrated a hoist-and-shift lever into the console and added extra storage and an optional object detection system.
New traction control helps you keep the show on the road, as do slope-focused features such as downhill automatic engine retarding, a strong parking brake, and an optional engine brake. There’s an auxiliary steering circuit in case of failure, and you can shut off the engine from ground level if need be.
Big Brawn
The 777G’s huge Cat C32 ACERT engine generates 916 net horsepower (683 kilowatts) and 7% more engine torque than its predecessor, Cat says. Top travel speed has increased to 41.7 mph (67.1 km/h).
Depending on the body and side-board size you choose, the truck’s heaped capacity ranges from 78.8 cubic yards (60.2 cubic meters) for a body optimized for driving steep slopes to 83.8 cubic yards (64.1 cubic meters) for a standard body. There are also bodies for hauling up to 165 cubic yards (126 cubic meters) of light material.
