Caterpillar Debuts 20 Machines At bauma, Shows 64 Total
The bauma trade show is underway in Munich, Germany, and Caterpillar is on the scene. There, in 140,000 square feet (13,000 square meters) of exhibit space with its local dealer, Zeppelin Cat, the company is introducing 20 new machines including fully electric and diesel-electric hybrid models.
“We are working to significantly decrease owning and operating costs while increasing power density and the use of alternative fuels, maximizing the efficiency of power systems, and expanding electrification in our product lines,” says Ramin Younessi, President of the Construction Industries Group at Caterpillar.
Cat is displaying 64 machines in all. The bauma show will run until April 14.
Cat Highlights
Among Cat’s new D6 dozers at the show is the industry-first high-drive electric drive model, the D6 XE. It’s up to 35% more fuel-efficient than its D6T predecessor, the company says.
Cat’s wheel loaders at bauma include three fuel-efficient XE models, including the 988K XE, the manufacturer’s first diesel/electric-drive model. There’s also the zero-emission, electric 906 concept compact, which is powered by a lithium-ion battery and motivated by an electric drivetrain.
Elsewhere in the Cat exhibit are Next Gen mini excavators such as the 302 CR. NG models in the 1- to 10-ton (0.9-to 9.1-metric ton) class come standard with features such as Stick Steer joystick steering, which is user-selectable alongside their conventional lever and foot-pedal steering controls.
Services & Technologies
"Cat construction machines are available with more automation, integrated technology, and digital solutions that enable customers to focus on their most important task: running their businesses,” Younessi says.
Cat Connect technology is integrated into many of the machines in the company booth, including the 330 and 336 Next Generation crawler excavators. The technology can increase operating efficiency up to 45% and fuel efficiency up to 20%, the company says.
Among the high-tech services being demonstrated at the show are Cat Grade for grading assistance (graders and dozers) and automated digging movements (excavators), Cat Payload for payload weighing (excavators and wheel loaders), Cat Command for dozing by remote control, and Cat Detect to help large mining equipment operators avoid accidents with other machines and personnel on the worksite.
Cat is also demonstrating its work tools and dealer-delivered support services.
Beyond core product offerings, customers also have a choice of services that best fit their individual needs and budgets,” says Damien Giraud, vice president of Cat’s Global Aftermarket Solutions Division. “Services range from new aftermarket products to service agreements, and full-fleet tracking through the new Cat App, the industry’s first mobile app designed to track critical machine operating data from the field.”
