Among its other activities around the Bauma 2019 trade fair in Munich, Germany, manufacturer Liebherr debuted its new medium-class, truck-mounted concrete pump, the 42 M5 XXT.

The agile, compact unit has 5-part multi-fold distributor booms, an unfolding height of just 28.2 feet (8.6 meters), and a vertical reach of 135.2 feet (41.2 meters).

While in Munich, Liebherr also took the opportunity to transfer its first 42 M5 XXT to its longtime customer, Ulm-based ready mix supplier Betonpumpenunion.

The new 42 M5 XXT has a quieter, simpler, more robust drive unit called the Liebherr-Powerbloc. This new development has fewer hydraulic hoses and other parts because it incorporates the pump’s switching and measuring elements. (Image courtesy of Liebherr.)

    Innovative Drive Unit

A key feature sets the 42 M5 XXT apart from other concrete pumps: It has a quieter, simpler, more robust new drive unit called the Liebherr-Powerbloc. The new unit does away with a number of hydraulic hoses and other parts by incorporating the pump’s switching and measuring components.

The Liebherr Group’s Components Division developed the higher-performance Liebherr-Powerbloc, which was one of Betonpumpenunion’s main reasons for wanting to buy the 42 M5 XXT, according to the seller.

    Specs

The 42 M5 XXT has a horizontal reach of 122 feet (37.2 meters) and a 21.2-cubic foot (600-liter) hopper capacity. Its boom can slew 365 degrees, more than a full rotation.

Two pump units are available: the 140H, with a maximum flow rate of 180 cubic yards (138 cubic meters) per hour; and the 170H, with a maximum flow rate of 213 cubic yards (163 cubic meters) per hour. The 24-volt machine operates at a noise level of 119 deciBels.

The Mercedes truck on which Liebherr sells the unit has four axles, so the company kept the operating weight under 35.3 tons (32 metric tons) for use on European roads.
