Crane manufacturer Manitowoc is at the bauma trade fair in Germany this week showcasing the apps and services it offers. These include diagnostic aids, crane setup calculators, training simulators, remanufacturing services, remote management, and more.

“Manitowoc aims to support the lifting industry with the most comprehensive lineup of service and support options on the market,” says Manitowoc president and CEO Barry Pennypacker. “From building digital tools to expanding our training and support offerings, we want to help our customers get the most return on investment from their cranes.”

    Apps

The free Manitowoc Diagnostic Code App helps you interpret error codes from certain Manitowoc cranes as well as some from its Grove and National Crane brands. The app works with cranes that run on CCS, Manitowoc’s Crane Control System, and GMK series cranes with ECOS (Electronic Crane Operating System). It can also translate diagnostic codes for some National Crane NBT boom trucks and for certain Rated Capacity Limiter Systems on select Grove and National Crane models.

Meanwhile, the free Manitowoc Boom Length Selector App helps you decide on a boom and jib length combination for a particular load. The app lets you factor in building height, boom radius, and other criteria with sliding controls. You can download both apps through Apple’s App Store or the Google Play Store.

    Remote Management

Users of Manitowoc’s Potain brand tower cranes can access the Crane Star Diag telematics service to remotely monitor crane usage and activity. The service is also useful to support personnel for troubleshooting and maintenance purposes. Crane Star Diag is accessible through smartphones and computers.

    Simulators

Speaking of computers, show attendees can try out Grove’s crane operator training simulators for a 40-ton (36.6-metric-ton) rough-terrain crane and a GMK5250 all-terrain crane. The high-tech simulators give new operators a chance to learn the ropes in a safe, virtual environment, using the same controls and displays as in the real cranes. The GMK5250 sim even lets technicians practice their crane troubleshooting skills.

    EnCORE

EnCORE is Manitowoc’s rebuild service for used cranes. The program provides a 12-month warranty and proper technical documentation for each crane refurbished by the company’s experienced technicians.
