Terex Presents Updated TA300 Articulated Dump Truck At Bauma
Updated last August, Terex Trucks’ TA300 off-highway dump truck has made its first international trade show appearance at the bauma Munich 2019 show in Germany this week.
The company also brought its largest truck, the TA400. Terex is touting both models’ low total cost of ownership and high productivity. They’re designed for big construction and infrastructure projects, as well as quarry and mine work.
“Terex Trucks has been investing in and making improvements to both the TA300 and TA400 articulated haulers,” says Terex Trucks’ Managing Director Paul Douglas. “Both of these machines are robust, reliable, and productive. Our articulated haulers have never been better.”
A New Transmission
The updated TA300 gets 5% better fuel economy due in part to its new EP320 transmission. The smoother-shifting unit is more comfortable for the driver to operate with eight forward gears (two more than the previous transmission) and four reverse. The new gearbox also has a greater overall gear ratio spread, Terex says, along with equal-ratio steps between gears and optimized gear shifting with partial load shifts.
In addition, the EP320 has longer intervals between required maintenance, as its oil lasts for 4,000 hours instead of 1,000 hours. Top travel speed for the TA300 has also increased from 31 mph (50 km/h) to 34 mph (55 km/h).
Power & Efficiency
The TA300 can haul up to 30.9 tons (28 metric tons) and has a heaped capacity of 22.9 cubic yards (17.5 cubic meters). Its Scania DC9 engine peaks at 370 horsepower (276 kilowatts) of power.
The TA400, meanwhile, gets 444 horsepower (331 kilowatts) and 1,663 pounds-foot (2,255 newton meters) of torque from its Scania DC13 engine. The truck can haul up to 41.9 tons (38 metric tons) and has a heaped capacity of 30.3 cubic yards (23 cubic meters). Its Allison HD4560 transmission can go up to 6,000 hours between oil changes.
Neither truck uses DPF (diesel particulate filters). They meet global emissions requirements using the most current SCR (selective catalytic reduction), along with EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) and a VGT (variable geometry turbo).
Both trucks are capable and controllable on slippery ground and slopes, Terex says. Their force-cooled multi-disc brakes, modulating transmission retarders, and electronically activated exhaust brakes all help in this regard.
Finally, both trucks have comfortable cabs with pressurization, adjustable air suspension seats, A/C and heat, sound insulation, and more.
Doing One Thing Well
“Terex Trucks is currently expanding its presence in key markets and that includes Germany as well as the U.S. and France,” Douglas says. “We already have three well-established dealers in Germany but we’re looking to sign more—particularly in the east and north-east of the country.
“For us, it’s all about robust articulated haulers—that’s the only product Terex Trucks manufactures. This gives us the luxury of being able to focus all our attention on this machine,” said Douglas. “We are the experts in all things articulated hauler, and have been for many decades.”
The bauma show will continue through April 14.
