Volvo Construction Equipment revealed its new 20-ton (18.1-metric ton) EC200E crawler excavator at Bauma 2019, which ran April 8-14 in Munich, Germany. The company focused on making the new machine more affordable than larger models while giving customers the option for a unit between its existing 16- and 22-ton (14.5- to 20-metric ton) excavators. “This machine’s size and price point make it a great new option for rental yards and for owners of smaller fleets looking to move up to take on bigger projects, particularly those in the building segment,” said Sung Sook Kim, product manager, excavators, at Volvo Construction Equipment.

    Specifications & Features

The Volvo CE EC200E has an operating weight of between 44,974 and 54,388 pounds (20,400 and 24,670 kilograms), a gross power rating of 154 horsepower (114.8 kilowatts), and a bucket capacity of between 0.36 and 1.44 cubic yards (0.28 to 1.1 cubic meters). It also has a maximum lift capacity of 16,138 pounds (7,320 kilograms), digging reach of 32.75 feet (10 meters), digging depth of 22.25 feet (6.8 meters), and a breakout force of 33,500 pounds-foot (45,420 newton-meters). These specs make the EC200E well-suited for light- and medium-duty applications.

Another important feature is the attachment management system, which Volvo says “allows for pre-setting hydraulic flow and pressure for up to 20 attachments” and is designed for use with quick couplers for faster attachment swaps. Other features include a Tier 4 Final D4 Volvo engine, auto idling and auto engine shutdown for better fuel efficiency, a ROPS cab, anti-slip steps, and high-visibility handrails for improved operator safety, and an 8-inch LCD display.

    Peace Of Mind

In addition to having components with shorter service intervals accessible at ground level, the EC200E is protected by a Volvo Lifetime Frame and Structure Warranty, which the company says “covers the frame, boom, and arm for the entirety of the initial period of ownership.” Volvo backs the EC200E with a Fuel Efficiency Guarantee as well where the company will reimburse if your machine doesn’t “meet model-rated efficiency levels” for “fuel consumption and productivity.”
