Kobelco Launches New SK75SR-7 & SK85CS-7 Mid-Sized Excavators
Kobelco’s new SK75SR-7 and SK85CS-7 crawler excavators are mid-size machines in the 9- to 10-ton (8- to 9-metric-ton) class. They feature a compact design, a long digging reach, and a short rear swing, the manufacturer says. They’re also more efficient and productive than earlier models, Kobelco says, with more power and speed.
Tale Of The Tape
The SK75SR-7 has an operating weight of 17,840 to 18,700 pounds (8,090 to 8,490 kilograms), while the slightly heavier SK85CS weighs in at 19,270 to 20,100 pounds (8,740 to 9,120 kilograms). Bucket capacity for the pair ranges from 0.14 to 0.46 cubic yards (0.11 to 0.35 cubic meters).
Both employ a new 70-horsepower (52-kilowatt) Yanmar four-cylinder diesel engine with a turbocharger and an intercooler. It complies with Tier IV Final, EU Stage V, and Japanese exhaust emission regulations.
The new power plant gives the crawlers about a 28% increase in power output over prior models ending in -3E. Hill climbing speed with the 2-speed travel motor is also up 22%, Kobelco says.
Both excavators can lift more than the last-generation models, with the SK75SR-7 capable of 27.2% more (3,320 pounds, or 1,506 kilograms) and the new SK85CS-7 getting an 18.2% increase to 3,570 pounds (1,619 kilograms).
As for digging performance, the new Kobelcos boast a dynamic digging force of 14,070 pounds (62.6 kilonewtons). They can operate continuously, the manufacturer says, and can dig 37% faster, resulting in 15% shorter cycle times.
Special Features
Kobelco endowed the new SK75SR-7 and SK85CS-7 with its iNDr (Integrated Noise & Dust Reduction) cooling system with a corrugated stainless mesh debris filter. The very quiet system provides easy maintenance access, the manufacturer says, as do the rest of the crawlers’ service points.
Attachment changes can be much faster with the new Kobelcos, too. Their attachment selection system has user-adjustable presets for the bucket, breaker, nibbler, and thumb’s flow-rate modes, making tool setup vastly quicker.
New ergonomic features combat operator fatigue, Kobelco says, increasing productivity. The ergonomic control lever takes 25% less force to operate, and the user no longer has to twist the wrist to move the lever sideways. A Grammer air ride suspension seat comes standard, as do adjustable pilot valves so the operator can set the attachment control levers to the preferred height.
The new 10-inch (254-millimeter) color monitor in the cab is the largest in the industry, Komatsu claims. Also new is a jog dial control to select different functions on the screen. It’s designed to be easy to use with gloves on. The operator can split the screen to show the side and rear views from the Eagle Eye 3 cameras arrayed around the excavator to make sure that no stray personnel or obstacles have entered the worksite.
Finally, LEDs now backlight the dials and buttons in the cab, and ambient lights turn on during entry and exit for safety and visibility.
