Atlas Copco Shrinks Its XAVS 238 & XATS 288 Compressors, Ups Efficiency

    Posted On: August 5, 2019

Atlas Copco’s XAVS 238 and XATS 288 portable compressors are now 27% more compact, 20% lighter, and 10% more energy-efficient, the manufacturer says. (Photo courtesy of Atlas Copco.)

Atlas Copco has reduced the physical sizes of its XAVS 238 and XATS 288 portable compressors, which respectively produce air flows of 238 and 288 cubic feet per minute (6.74 and 8.16 cubic meters per minute). Both models are now 27% smaller and 20% lighter.

“Whether used in sandblasting or shotcrete applications, the smaller footprint and weight of the XATS 288 and XAVS 238 offer many advantages for our customers,” says Atlas Copco’s VP of Marketing for its Portable Air Division, Hendrik Timmermans.

    New Engine

“Total cost of ownership is further decreased by a 10% increase in energy efficiency, improved serviceability, and introduction of the PACE management system,” Timmermans says.

A new engine is behind the 10% efficiency bump. It features the latest Atlas Copco screw element, as well as an extended oil service interval of 1,000 hours or two years. The manufacturer coats the compressors’ bodywork with three layers of corrosion protection to prevent rust.

The XAVS 238 and XATS 288’s PACE (Pressure Adjusted through Cognitive Electronics) control system helps the compressors meet flow and pressure demands. PACE is adjustable through the dust- and water-resistant Xc2003 control pad. (Photo courtesy of Atlas Copco.)

    Keeping PACE

Meanwhile, the new Pressure Adjusted through Cognitive Electronics control system, or PACE, ups a compressor’s envelope from 7 to 14 bar, Atlas Copco said. PACE also lets a sole compressor handle flow of up to 586 cubic feet per minute (16.6 cubic meters per minute). PACE is incorporated into the compressors’ IP65-rated Xc2003 controller, which has a color LCD display.
