Doosan’s New DX170LC-5 Crawler Excavator Easy To Transport
Heavy-equipment manufacturer Doosan has unveiled a new crawler excavator that’s large enough for landscaping and digging residential basements, yet easily transportable to and from the worksite.
The new 19-ton (17-metric-ton) Doosan DX170LC-5 is only 8 feet, 5 inches (2.6 meters) wide and relatively lightweight at 38,376 pounds (17,407 kilograms). Local road regulations vary, but you probably won’t need a special overweight/oversize transport permit in the U.S. to haul the new crawler to the job.
“We felt it was very important to offer a model in this size class to ensure our excavating customers could minimize transportation costs, while retaining the performance they expect from Doosan excavators,” says Doosan Infracore North America Marketing Manager Aaron Kleingartner.
Specs
The performance Doosan is talking about is exemplified by the new crawler’s 25,794 pounds-foot (114.74 kilonewtons) of bucket breakout force. The DX170LC-5 features a maximum digging reach of 28 feet, 10 inches (8.8 meters) and a maximum digging depth of 19 feet, 11 inches (6.1 meters). Its heaped bucket capacity is 0.86 cubic yards (0.66 cubic meters).
Powering the new Doosan is a 127-horsepower (95-kilowatt) diesel engine with a high-pressure, common-rail fuel system. The motor is Tier 4 standard-compliant thanks to DEF (diesel exhaust fluid), SCR (selective catalyst reduction), and other emissions reduction technologies in the engine and aftertreatment system.
Standard & Optional Features
Standard equipment on the new DX170LC-5 includes a rearview camera, a 7-inch LCD display, high-performance air conditioning, and an air suspension seat that’s adjustable and can recline. Doosan says the cab’s visibility is excellent.
Meanwhile, the DX170LC-5’s EPOS (Electronic Power Optimizing System) feature synchronizes the engine and hydraulic system, enabling four power modes that favor performance or fuel efficiency. These join four work modes optimized for digging, breaking, shearing, and lifting in specific applications. Finally, new buyers receive a three-year subscription to the DoosanCONNECT telematics with remote monitoring and troubleshooting services.
Options for the DX170LC-5 include a straight travel pedal, an intelligent floating boom, cab shields, extra work lamps, a rotating beacon, and an air compressor. Some additional options are two-way auxiliary hydraulics with a pedal to supplement the joystick, and a sideview camera that joins the rearview cam in a split-screen on the LCD display.
