Swiss Logistics Company Deploys Liebherr LR 11000 Crawler Cranes For Two Recent Jobs
Emil Egger AG, a transportation and logistics company based in St. Gallen, Switzerland, relied on a 1,102-ton (1,000-metric-ton) Liebherr LR 11000 crawler crane and its V-frame hydraulically adjustable ballast system on two recent jobs. One of the jobs involved hoisting a fire ship out of the River Rhine in Basel, Switzerland. In that instance, the adjustable ballast came in handy by helping the crane avoid nearby buildings and “other obstacles in the way of the derrick ballast during the slewing process,” according to Liebherr.
Bridge Hoist
The second job for the LR 11000 took full advantage of the V-frame system to hoist a bridge in Moudon near Lausanne, Switzerland. Liebherr says this area is particularly difficult to operate in due to “extremely restricted space, protected trees, and a heavy bridge, which had to be positioned over a river with a 180-degree slewing process.” Emil Egger AG was able to overcome those obstacles with the help of the LR 11000 and the V-frame thanks to the adjustable ballast.
“Without the hydraulically adjustable ballast radius, hoisting the bridge would have been significantly more expensive,” says Michael Egger, managing director of Emil Egger AG. “Firstly, it would have required much more expensive work on the embankment to get closer to the abutments with a crawler crane. And then we would also have required a much longer crane track to complete the bridge immediately in front of the abutment.”
