Caterpillar 926M, 930M, & 938M Small Wheel Loaders Get Enhanced Visibility, Comfort & Performance
Caterpillar has given its 926M, 930M, and 938M wheel loaders various enhancements to their visibility, operator comfort, and operating performance. The small wheel loaders have also received new features more associated with large loaders, Cat says, including better operating efficiency, reduced maintenance requirements, and longer service life.
The 926M is a 155-horsepower (116-kilowatt), 14.5-ton (13-metric-ton) machine. The 15.5-ton (14-metric-ton) Cat 930M has 170 horsepower (127 kilowatts), and the 18-ton (16-metric-ton) Cat 938M generates 190 horsepower (142 kilowatts).
Attachment Visibility
Cat has improved the operator’s view of loader attachments in a number of ways, including a new material handling arm that is easier to see around. The arm is transportable with a GP bucket and features easy adjustment, the manufacturer says.
Another enhancement is the relocation of the actuation cylinders on the frame of the loaders’ new Fusion Quick Coupler, which increases visibility through the coupler by up to 85%. The electro-hydraulic quick-attach system, activated from within the cab, also has an available carriage for fork attachments that has been redesigned to reduce obstruction of the operator’s vision. The Cat 930M and 938M loaders get additional visibility improvements through a new cast torque tube, a new third-function auxiliary hose routing, and new lift arms with 100% greater fork tip/heel visibility and 50% more visibility to the bucket edge.
Cat also offers LED lighting options for the small loader line to better illuminate the road ahead, as well as the inside of the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) fill tank compartment. The loaders also get LED indicators with the lighting package.
Comfort In The Cab
Cat says that the new seat fabric designs in its small wheel loader lineup provide better airflow to keep the operator comfortable and productive. There are premium and deluxe seat options that introduce other comfort features including heating, cooling, air suspension, air or mechanical lumbar support, leather, and additional rests and adjustments.
In other changes, the loaders’ seatbelt is a bright orange color to be visible from outside the cab. This helps reassure supervisors that safety protocols are being followed.
Performance Upgrades
In the case of the redesigned 930M loader, its Cat C7.1 engine now meets Stage V emissions standards as well as Tier 4 Final and Japan 2014 standards. The machine is slightly more powerful (5%), improving its breakout force and full-turn tip load capacity by like amounts.
The “big loader” options Cat mentions for the three loaders include hydraulic load check valves and CPM (Cat Production Management), a weight-sensing feature that helps ensure that each bucket load is sufficiently full for productivity purposes. A TPM (tire pressure monitoring) system senses over- and under-inflated tires, while the integrated Cat Autolube with cab display speeds up daily maintenance and ensures proper greasing of pivot points.
