Snorkel Shows New A38E Electric Articulating Boom Lift At APEX Asia Show In Shanghai
Aerial work platform manufacturer Snorkel highlighted its new, Chinese-made A38E electric articulated boom lift at the second APEX Asia show in Shanghai. APEX Asia, a showcase of lifts for the Asian market, is part of the CeMAT Asia show that took place from October 23 to 26. The A38E is assembled at a factory in Jintan, Jiangsu Province, and is also manufactured in the UK.
Besides the A38E, Snorkel brought several other lifts to APEX Asia including the A46JE battery-electric boom model and the compact S3219E and big S4732E electric scissor lifts, all assembled in the Jintan plant. The company also showcased its diesel-powered S3970RT rough-terrain scissor lift, which is new to the local market.
"The Snorkel A38E has long been a popular model in China, particularly in industrial applications, and it is with great pleasure that we announce that we will be manufacturing this unit domestically to meet increasing customer demand,” said Snorkel CEO Matthew Elvin. “This is the fourth Snorkel model to be manufactured here in China, and we have plans to add more models in the future, growing our assembly at an appropriate speed and scale to support the market. We are grateful to our Chinese customers for their ongoing support of the brand."
The All-Electric A38E
The zero-emission, indoor/outdoor A38E is a DC direct-drive unit with proportional controls. It runs quietly on eight 6-volt, 220-ah batteries and rubber tires. It can lift up to 475 pounds (215 kilograms) with room on its platform for two workers and their tools.
Notably for an articulated lift, the A38E’s upper boom is a telescopic component, which gives it 20 feet (6.1 meters) of outreach. It has a 43-foot, 7-inch (13.3-meter) maximum working height and it can creep along at 0.4 mph (0.6 km/h) while fully extended. Snorkel gives the lift 90 degrees of hydraulically powered platform rotation and 360 degrees of non-continuous superstructure rotation.
The A38E weighs 8,554 pounds (3,880 kilograms) and has a folded-up height of 6 feet, 8 inches (2 meters) when stowed. It’s 13 feet, 5 inches (4.1 meters) long and 4 feet, 11 inches (1.5 meters) wide. Snorkel gives it a gradeability rating of 36% and says it can travel up to 10 miles (16 kilometers) on a single battery charge.
The A38E comes with a two-year parts and labor warranty and five years of structural coverage. The Snorkel Guard secondary guarding system also comes standard.
