Caterpillar recently announced its plans for the CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2020 construction trade show, which takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada, from March 10 to 24. Caterpillar’s presence at the show consists of a 60,000-square-foot (5,574-square-meter) outdoor exhibit where the company will highlight 30 pieces of equipment, including nine new machines, as well as several new technologies and services. It will also serve as the site of the Global Operator Challenge finals, where nine Regional Champions will compete to find a winner. The event began with 10,000 operators from 30 countries and will conclude on March 10 just after the grand opening of the show.

New Cat Excavators, Dozers, Backhoe Loaders, Motor Graders & Articulated Trucks

Of the nine new Cat machines to be introduced at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2020, five are hydraulic excavators, including the M318, 313 GC, 315, 325, and 395. The M318 is a wheeled model that Caterpillar says can take advantage of optional technologies such as Cat GRADE, E-Fence, and PAYLOAD to improve operator efficiency by up to 45%. The 313 GC features a new design for easier maintenance, and the 315 has a larger cab in addition to more drawbar pull and swing torque. The 325 is a medium-sized model with improved fuel efficiency and extended maintenance intervals, while the brand-new 395 comes standard with Cat PAYLOAD and also has extended service intervals.

The other four new models on display at the convention are the Cat D3 dozer, which replaces the existing Cat D5K2 model, the 420XE backhoe loader, the 150 AWD motor grader, and a 725-series articulated truck. The Cat D3 is more fuel-efficient that past models and has better visibility from the cab. The 420XE is a center-pivot model that features an IT quick coupler for switching attachments quickly. The 150 AWD will be one of the first motor graders to feature the mastless 3D Cat GRADE control system that Caterpillar says “increases uptimes and reduces costs associated with potential receiver, mast, or machine damage.” New features for the company’s 725 trucks include Automatic Retarder Control, Advanced Automatic Traction Control, and more.

    New Technologies & Services

Several new Cat technologies and services are either being introduced for the first time or making their North American debuts at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2020. One example is the Cat Command remote operating station, which takes advantage of the Command Vision System to allow operators to control multiple machines at once from the same station. Another is Command for Compaction, which Caterpillar says “eliminates skill gaps to deliver up to 60% coverage with consistent and precise overlap, constant speed, and correct pass count,” during the paving process.

Other technologies and solutions on display include Cat Productivity, a web-based platform that gathers data from Cat Product Link to improve efficiency and machine utilization; Cat Remote Services, which the manufacturer says delivers “up to 50% less machine downtime through Remote Flash software updates and Remote Troubleshoot diagnostic testing”; and a new XL sealing system for the Cat Abrasion Undercarriage for enhanced durability. Caterpillar also announced new CVAs (Customer Value Agreements) that “offer up to five years comprehensive coverage to lower owning and operating costs.”
