JLG Highlighted New Lightweight, Indoor Scissor Lifts & Model Number Changes At ARA Show
JLG showcased several electric drive and hydraulic drive scissor lifts at this week’s ARA Show in Orlando, Florida. The manufacturer has developed new indoor-only and lightweight models in response to the needs of specialty environments such as multi-story hospitals, schools, and data centers.
The new lifts follow JLG’s new model number conventions, so a brief primer is in order.
New Model Numbers & Identifying Decals
“The new ANSI standards served as inspiration to simplify the model numbers across our two popular scissor lines,” says JLG Senior Product Manager for Scissor Lifts, Rafael Nunez. “We took the opportunity in conjunction with meeting the new standards to align our model numbers to make it easier for our customers and their customers to understand the characteristics of each model.”
The new JLG model numbers begin with a category indicator: ES for electric drive, RT for rough terrain, or R for hydraulic drive. Next come the numeric parts of the model numbers. “The first two numbers for each model refer to platform height, the second two to platform width,” Nunez says. Finally, specialty models receive suffixes of i for indoor-only use or L for lightweight. The new nomenclature will gradually roll out to JLG’s other lifts.
JLG also changed the font on the machines’ decals to make them easier to read from a distance. On lifts with electric drive, the ES prefix on the model number decal appears in an electric blue color. The new ANSI 92.20-compliant models also have new door decals and caution tape on the bottom of the platform.
New ES-Series Electric Drive Scissor Lifts
JLG brought two of its four new compact electric drive scissor lifts, the ES1330L and ES1932, to the ARA Show. The others announced by the company are the ES1932i and ES1530L. “These four new ES models expand the JLG electric scissor offering on the compact end of the spectrum, where we are seeing an increased demand for smaller, lightweight models,” says Nunez.
The new ES series scissor lifts have only six hoses, reducing potential leak points. Compared to electric-powered hydraulic drive models, the electric drive units can travel and cycle faster, as well as provide up to twice as much battery life. The ES lifts feature a variable tilt system for modest slopes.
The lightweight ES1330L weighs 1,984 pounds (900 kilograms), making it suitable for use on most suspended floors. As the numerical portion of its model number implies, it has a 13-foot (4-meter) platform height and is only 30 inches (76.2 centimeters) in width.
The new ES1932, meanwhile, is an electric-drive version of JLG’s well-liked R1932, which has a 19-ft (5.8-m) platform height and a 32-in (81.3-cm) width. The manufacturer describes it as rugged and reliable. The ES1932 is also compatible with JLG’s Mobile Control app, which allows the operator to drive the stowed scissor using a Bluetooth-enabled mobile device from up to 40 ft (12.2 m) away. JLG plans to add battery monitoring to the app in the near future.
New R-Series Indoor-Only Scissor Lift
“As we worked through the new ANSI 92.20 requirements, we developed a unique solution that resulted in the company’s first indoor-only scissor lift, a product that offers up to a 25-ft work height,” says Nunez. “This new scissor works at the same height as traditional 19-ft models without the excess weight or capacity restrictions required on indoor/outdoor units.”
Nunez referred to the new, single-operator R1932i. It weighs 2,549 lbs (1,156 kg) and has a maximum capacity of 500 lbs (227 kg). The 32-in-wide, hydraulic-drive scissor lift includes fold-down rails and has an optional QuickFold rail system.
“Standard features include variable tilt, a pressure-based load sensing system, and controlled elevation/travel descent,” says JLG Senior Director Of Global Product Development Shashank Bhatia. “These features allow operators to work with greater confidence.”
