Bobcat Launches E42 & E50 Models From Newly Introduced R2-Series Of Compact Excavators

The E42 and E50 are the first offerings from the recently announced R2-Series of compact excavators from Bobcat. The manufacturer indicates that more models are to come at a later date, and that the R2-Series provides the digging power of a larger machine in a compact frame that can operate in tight spaces. Among other features, the 42.6-horsepower (31.8-kilowatt) E42 and 49.7-hp (37.1-kW) E50 include a redesigned turbocharged diesel engine that Bobcat says is more efficient and performs better in cold weather. The E42 provides 17.6 feet (5.3 meters) of maximum reach, a 10.4-ft. (3.2-m) maximum dig depth, and a 12.3-ft. (3.7-m) maximum dump height; the E50 delivers 19.3-ft. (5.9-m), 11.4-ft. (3.5-m), and 12.8-ft. (3.9-m) by comparison.

    Improvements All Around

The R2-Series’ redesigned engines also include features that make maintenance and repairs easier. Enhanced low-effort joysticks, meanwhile, provide better operator input response and enable longer operation and less fatigue, while a new hydraulic control valve provides improved metering, finite movement and controllability for level grading, and fast cycle times, Bobcat says. The models also incorporate dual-flange track rollers that position the undercarriage structure closer to the tracks’ edge for added stability. Elsewhere, a new cooling system with side-by-side heat exchangers provides more efficient engine compartment temperature control for better performance and longer component life.

    Depth Perception

Notable optional features include the Bobcat depth check accessory kit designed to reduce the tendency to over- or under-dig. Bobcat says the models can also accept all depth check system components, and depth check functions are integrated into the excavators’ standard 5-inch LCD display or an optional waterproof 7-inch touchscreen display. Also optional is a rear camera and clamp diverter valve, the latter of which provides enhanced hydraulic clamp functionality and improved ability to operate other attachments without disconnecting the clamp.
