Genie Releases 52-foot Z-45 FE All-Electric/Hybrid Articulating Boom Lift

    Posted On: March 9, 2020

Genie says its new 51.8-foot (15.92-meter) Z-45 FE hybrid articulating boom has much to offer rental companies, including versatility, sustainability, and power. The “2-in-1” boom model is also adaptable for indoor and outdoor applications, including when on-site electric power isn’t available, and its 660-pound (300-kilogram) maximum lift capacity enables loading 30% more materials on the platform compared to other hybrid booms in its class. That adds up to “additional jobsite utilization and longer rental opportunities,” Genie says.

    Work All Day

Using the same hybrid technology as Genie’s Z-60 FE, the Z-45 FE can function in all-electric and hybrid modes; Genie says it provides a full shift’s worth of operation on one battery charge in all-electric mode and a week’s worth of run time on one tank of diesel in hybrid mode. The Z-45 FE’s hybrid mode makes use of a 24.8-horsepower (18.5-kilowatt) Kubota D1105 Tier 4 Final engine-powered generator to maintain battery charge. High-capacity 335Ah maintenance-free AGM batteries come standard on the lift, while 315Ah FLA batteries are optional. The Z-45 FE recaptures energy when braking and descending inclines for battery recharging, and moving from full-electric to hybrid operation only requires flipping a switch.

“Offering full-time four-wheel drive and equipped with electronic traction management, active oscillating axles, and the ability to travel 4 mph (6.44 km/h) drive speed for quick travel around jobsites, this new Genie hybrid model provides the ultimate rough-terrain performance,” says Marie Engstrom, Genie product manager. “The low-maintenance IP67-sealed AC drive motors are designed to significantly prolong battery charge while reducing operating and maintenance costs for excellent rental returns on invested capital.”

    Specifications

Z-45 FE specs include a 22.9-ft. (6.94-m) maximum horizontal outreach, 24.7-ft (7.5-m) maximum up-and-over reach, and 5-ft (1.52-m) articulating jib with 135-degree vertical rotation. Features include zero-noise and zero-emission operation, onboard diagnostics, foam-filled non-marking all-terrain tires, and a load-sensing system that continually monitors platform weight and disables lift and drive functionality if exceeding limits. Zero-load field calibration for platform capacity support is included, as is a CAN-based system that incorporates Genie Smart Link control system features for “easy and straightforward” operation.
