Manitowoc Sells GHC140 Telescopic Crawler Crane Displayed At CONEXPO
A Grove GHC140 telescopic boom crawler crane was among the models parent company Manitowoc brought to the CONEXPO-CON/AGG construction trade show—but it was destined to go home with someone else. Traci and Tim Mohr from SCU Crane and Rigging toasted their purchase of the crane on display at the show, along with personnel from Manitowoc and from Grove dealer Hayden-Murphy.
Strong Reach
The 140-ton (127-metric-ton) GHC140 has the highest capacity in Grove’s telescopic crawler crane lineup. The manufacturer emphasizes its lifting power at mid-range and maximum reach. The crane’s six-section pin boom extends from 40 feet, 5 inches to 171 feet (12.3 to 52.1 meters). It comes standard with a 49-foot, 3-inch (15-meter) bi-fold swingaway jib extension with offset capability. Maximum tip height for the crane is 229 ft, 8 in (70 m).
Grove says that the GHC140 is a 100% pick-and-carry crane. It can lift objects from a slope of up to 4 degrees, and it has a theoretical gradeability of 57%, according to the manufacturer. The crane is fully self-rigging for fast, simple setup. Jacks mounted on the frame make it easier to install tracks as needed and to hydraulically install the counterweights. It has a gross vehicle weight of 263,000 pounds (119,295 kilograms).
Other Selling Points
Other The GHC140’s cab can tilt up to 20 degrees for better operator visibility, and it features a heated air suspension seat. Its engine is a 6.7-liter Cummins QSB diesel in compliance with Tier 4 Final emissions standards. A two-speed hydrostatic drive transmission provides locomotion. The crane’s tracks are retractable when it’s time for transport.
