New Vermeer Cutting System Introduced In Select Stump Cutters
Vermeer has come up with a new cutting system for its stump cutters to reduce retorquing requirements and keep material from recirculating around the cutting wheel. The patent-pending Vermeer Cutting System features a new, double-sided, V-profile, carbide tooth design and replaceable, high abrasion-resistant steel wear plates on either side of the wheel’s center core. The wheel’s new design and tooth placement help material flow past it after being cut instead of being recycled into the path of the teeth.
The VCS is or soon will be available on new Vermeer stump cutters of 50 horsepower or greater, including the SC552, SC802, SC852, and SC70TX. The company says it will later be offered for its entire product line.
Cutting Down On Maintenance
“Torquing cutter teeth daily is pretty common for most stump cutter users,” says Vermeer Product Manager for Tree Care, Rental, and Landscape Matt Hutchinson. “Bolts that aren’t torqued properly tend to rotate in the pocket, causing premature wear and impacting the performance of the cutter wheel.
“The tooth design on the VCS has a mounting and retention structure that helps keep teeth from shifting in the pocket while absorbing the shearing force, instead of the bolt securing the tooth to the cutter wheel while operating. This design makes it possible to secure each set of teeth with a single long bolt and reduces the need for retorquing,” Hutchinson says. Once torqued, the bolts remain tight until the teeth are removed or flipped, according to Vermeer.
VCS Or Yellow Jacket
VCS will offer customers an alternative to Vermeer’s current Yellow Jacket cutting system, which offers reversible teeth and three pocket styles. Stump cutter models SC292, SC30TX, SC362, SC382, and SC40TX currently come with the Yellow Jacket system.
