Kobelco’s new 16.4-ton (14.9-metric-ton) SK140SRLC-7 is a mid-sized model in the SR Series of short rear swing crawler excavators. The long-reach unit is powered by a new 105.4-horsepower Tier IV Final Isuzu engine with approximately 10% more power than the preceding model. The SK140SRLC-7 features a high drawbar pulling force of 31,700 pound force-feet (141 kilonewtons), travel speeds of up to 3.5 mph (5.6 km/h), and a fast 11 rpm swing speed.

    Power & Reach

The next-generation, 32,800-pound (14,900-kilogram) Kobelco has a long maximum digging reach of 28 feet, 11 inches (8.81 meters) and a max digging depth of 19 feet, 7 inches (5.97 meters). At the same time, its tail swing radius is just 4 ft, 11 in (1.49 m), which along with an optional offset boom allows it to bring digging power to bear in confined spaces. The crawler excavator has a dynamic digging force of 24,800 lbf (110.3 kN), a bucket digging force of 12,600 lbf (56.1 kN), and an arm crowding force of 13,000 lbf (58 kN).

Kobelco equips the SK140SRLC-7 with a quick-change attachment selection system. It includes user-adjustable presets for the flow rates appropriate to the bucket, thumb, nibbler, and breaker. An 8-ft, 6-in (2.59-m) dozer blade is also available. Kobelco’s exclusive independent travel system frees up the SK140SRLC-7 to lift and swing while moving without any loss of power.

    Comfortable Command Center

The new excavator is quieter than one might expect, thanks to the manufacturer’s iNDr (integrated Noise & Dust reduction) system that routes filtered airflow through an isolated engine compartment. Operator comfort is further enhanced by an ergonomically designed lever and a GRAMMER air ride suspension seat. An unfastened seatbelt indicator promotes safety on the jobsite.

The SK140SRLC-7’s cab also comes with a new jog dial and a 10-in color display. The latter has a configurable split-screen feature to accommodate the excavator’s rear, left-hand, and right-hand cameras.
