Crane Norway Group recently expanded its Grove fleet from 15 to 24 cranes after receiving delivery of nine Grove cranes from Manitowoc’s plant in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. The fleet additions include five new Grove GMK5250XL-1s, two GMK6300L-1s, one GMK5150L, and one GMK3060L.

“We purchased our first Grove crane in 1986—a Grove TM760EN—and have added different GMK models to our fleet in recent years,” says Trond Helge Skretting, COO at Crane Norway Group. “We’ve always been extremely satisfied with the consistent performance and reliability of our Grove cranes, and so have our customers.”

    The Grove GMK5250XL-1

The Grove GMK5250XL-1 provides Crane Norway Group with the load charts and versatility the firm needs when installing wind farms and undertaking big oil and gas construction projects. The GMK5250XL-1 supports capacities up to 275 tons (250 metric tons) and features a 258-foot (78.5 meter) main boom, which is said to be the longest in its class. Grove powers the GMK5250XL-1 with a Mercedes-Benz OM471LA engine that generates 532 horsepower (390 kilowatts) and meets EUROMOT 5/EPA/CARB Tier 4 final standards.

    Filling Out The Fleet

The new additions to Crane Norway Group’s fleet fulfill specialty job requirements. The five-axle GMK5150L, for example, is said to provide jobsite accessibility and maneuverability, thanks in parts to the crane’s 9-foot (2.75-meter) width. The GMK6300L-1, meanwhile, excels at long boom applications and lifting large capacities—boasting a 263-foot (80-meter)-long boom and a lift capacity of 350 tons (300 metric tons). Grove’s new GMK3060L offers Crane Norway Group a solution for tight construction sites and projects in densely populated areas with a length of less than 29 feet (8.8 meters) and a seven-section Megaform boom.
