New Mecalac 216MRail Compact Railroad Excavator Offers Mobility & Simple Operation
Able to operate on- or off-rail, Mecalac’s new 216MRail railroad excavator is compact enough to work under overhead lines and offers a maximum reach up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) under catenaries. The 216MRail features a hydrostatic transmission to drive smoothly on the rails, and its 136-horsepower (100-kilowatt) engine gives the compact railroad excavator travel speeds up to 18.5 mph (30 km/h).
Lift Capacity
Mecalac designed the 216MRail with a lowered center of gravy and a centered upper carriage; this architecture gives the railroad excavator a healthy 17,640-pound (8,000-kilogram) lifting capacity at full extension. The 216MRail has a tail swing radius of 5 feet, 2 inches (1.57 meters) and a front cab swing radius (left side) of 5 ft, 5 in. (1.65 m). For improved productivity and safety, Mecalac designed the cab to give operators 360-degree visibility.
Easy To Use On Rail & Trail
Mecalac says it has simplified the operator interface by eliminating complex screens and settings. The company says driver assistance functions like cylinder coupling and the excavator’s rail mode are activated with a single switch, and the in-cab displays have been refined to contextually show the most useful data in real time. Other key features include the ability to tow a trailer and pneumatic braking. The 216MRail can operate in any country where rail spacing follows the standard dimensions (4 ft, 8.5 in., or 1.435 m) and complies with the future European standard EN 15746.
